God of War sequel was announced to be multiplat and on the ps4 as well, so new fans of the God of War reboot will get to play the sequel on ps4 instead of having to buy a ps5.

Some think even the recent R&C might be reverse ported to the ps4 as well

It's the best option. The PS5 may not be easy to find for another year. Their biggest exclusives wouldn't sell as well.

Yeah it was a sigh of relief for people who had no interest in getting a ps5 but still wanted to play the games for it (I only just got ps4 myself, but blazed through the games the past 2 years cuz of the pandemic)

I get it, because nobody can get a PS5, and it's nice as a PS4 owner to not feel like I'm missing out, but this does mean that it will be a while now before we see some "true" next gen titles since everything that was hyped for PS5 will be being designed with PS4 functionality in mind, which makes me feel a bit for the people who have shelled out the best part of 500 on a new console. Am I right in thinking that if the rumours of a Demon's Souls PS4 version are true then the only PS5 exclusives are Astro, R&C, Returnal and Destruction AllStars? Oh, and the FF7R DLC?

Some. There's only a few that could be considered worth playing. The new Ratchet and Clank is probably the best right now due to accessibility.

How are they not? If a game has to be designed for both last gen and current gen it has to be able to run on the worse console of last gen Base Xbox 1 and Base PS4 and the best Hardware the Series X. They can't go full on with the Next gen systems if it has to be able to run on the last gen systems . a good example of this is sea of Thieves a amazing game that could be so much more if they just ditched last gen support at some point

It would be a piss poor business decision to ditch last gen this early. There's very, very little incentive to actually buy a next gen console right now. And the versions aren't always identical

I would note that there are more PS5s sold than there were PS4s at this point in its life. I think the biggest difference this gen is that because of backwards compatibility and the similarity of the development architecture, it's just easier for devs to make crossgen games.

Did people forget how mediocre PS4 launch window games were? It wasn't until 2015 some good games started to come out.

True next gen games are gonna take 2-3 years after launch regardless. These crossgen games are already better than the initial PS4 lineup.

I don't know if Sony still do the "10 year cycle of support" thing that they were known for during the ps1/ps2 days, but if so then support for ps4 should go on for at least 2023.

I still get annoyed at the fact that I was trying to find a ps3 in 2016 after my original model got yellow light of death (a hardware flaw I had no idea about) and they had already stopped production because I could not find any anywhere. Despite the fact that it would have fallen under Sony's old "10 year lifecycle" campaign in the ps1/ps2 days

On the one hand that sounds promising to ps4 owners like myself who only got one 2 years ago. But I do feel bad for ps5 owners. I wonder if the console cycle will last longer, shorter, or about the same (a meager 7 years for gen 8)

Literally the only thing making me want a 5 was the GoW sequel potentially being exclusive.
