  • no physical conditioning required
  • very low skill ceiling (average youtubers are able to compete against so called professionals)
  • no genetic component
  • very little strategy (if any)

Go play Starcraft.
Go zerg
Make lots of units
Rush before any enemy can mount a defense, much less attack

You don't even have to understand the strategy or why it's a thing to make it work

You don't even have to excel at them or be competitive whatsoever, you could still make good money gaming if you know how to market yourself. For instance, being hydrodynamic helps some girls, while not being hydrodynamic helps a lot of other girls.

My initial thought was yes but physicality isnt everything. To even have a chance to become good enough at an Esport, you will have to commit at least 12 hours to the same game every single day. That doesnt even I miss VoD review time which could take hours a day as well. Even then, you might not be good enough. Since there is no physicality, there is no real limits to how much everyone plays.

The mental grind isnt to be underestimated

I excelled at sports just as much as i did video games. Mediocre in both. It all boils down to how badly you wanna be good. You gotta practice either way. You might get a few natural here and there.

Like ive beaten high ranked people in fighters before but I think that boils down to a lot of high level players stick to a handful of known strategies that work then i came in all unpredictable and shit. Yeah if i kept playing them they woulda figured me out quick.

There was that random woman who made it to the Olympics by scamming the qualifying process. I would say that's at least one instance that's easier than being good at competitive gaming.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/feb/19/elizabeth-swaney-snoabord-halfpipe-last-winter-olympics
Swaney managed to qualify for Pyeongchang due to the sheer volume of competitions she attended.

Needing to consistently finish in the top 30 at World Cup events to make it to South Korea, Swaney has persisted with easy runs, sometimes not even attempting tricks, to make sure she does not fall and always records a score. Her best finish came at Secret Garden in China when she finished 13th out of 15 athletes while a majority of her Olympic rivals were competing in the US Grand Prix at Copper Mountain or on the Dew Tour.

The field is not that deep in the womens pipe and she went to every World Cup, where there were only 24, 25, or 28 women, FIS halfpipe judge Steele Spence told the Denver Post. She would compete in them consistently over the last couple years and sometimes girls would crash so she would not end up dead last.

Easiest 'sport' is probably darts.

To be fair, 'esports' might be actually be some of the hardest to come out on top because so many people play games and it's super accessible.

Like sports like tennis, you have to go through the trouble and spend money to book courts. And hire a coach/hitting partner. I did it for a while only to realise you have to be a semi rich kid to have a chance.

Like the other post pointed out, you're better off picking a sport/game with the least competitors.

I dont think so just because esports has more participants than many other physical sports.

One example of an unpopular physical sport is Lethwei which is basically muay thai + headbutts. I dont recall any pro muay thai fighter actually competiting in it because of the headbutting part. Too risky

Even the first one isn't really true. Top chess professionals have found it is necessary to be in good physical shape to maintain the high level of mental effort required across several hours of play for multiple days in a row. E-sports might not be at that level yet, but they'll get there.

Yep. Top Esports players are already transforming. They have full blown work out routines now with trainers and diets. Teams would not pay for that stuff its it wasnt important. I think of pro gamers becoming physically fit like golfers back in the day. You could be a professional golfer back in the day with a dad bod. Not anymore. You need to be in great shape to compete. It is more obvious why that is the case in golf but it will matter in Esports too

Keeping your joints in shape is a major thing, too. The fucking constant, rapid shifting, in a way we didn't evolve for, has seen quite a few players ending up with surgery.
