Season 2 drops July 6th. I just watched Season 1 and decided to do a loose ranking of the sketches. Basically I wanted a topic as an excuse to have people talk about the sketches. Feel free to join in on ranking them. I'm going to do small writeups. Nothing fancy. There's 29 sketches total (unless you want to count the couple that are split within their episode which I don't know why you would want to).

Here's the list of the sketches (as I have them labeled; you'll find them named differently elsewhere) roughly in airing order:

Episode 1
Both Ways
Has This Ever Happened To You?
Baby of the Year
Look What I Just Posted
Gift Receipt

Episode 2
Motorcycle
River Mountain High
Wilsons Natural Hair Loss System
Whoopie Cushion
Strangers Revenge

Episode 3
The Magician
Focus Group
Laser Spine Specialists
New Boyfriend
Replacement Organist

Episode 4
My Dog Didnt Bite You
The Night Scrooge Saved Christmas
Fully Loaded Nachos
Honk If Youre Horny

Episode 5
Hot Dog Car
Christmas Came Early
The Day Robert Palins Murdered Me
Is That Caleb Wendt?
The Babysitter Was Late

Episode 6
Fentons Stables and Horse Ranch
Viral Video
Dan Vegas Mega Money Quiz
Baby Shower
Intervention

29. Replacement Organist
Concept: Theres a new organist at a funeral

I enjoy Fred Willard, but this sketch fell a little flat for me. It was one joke that never got expanded upon.

28. My Dog Didnt Bite You
Concept: A guest and the MC at a celebration of Herbie Hancock have a disagreement

It was okay. The beginning where he says the dog shouldnt be put down is amusing but the payoff of the dog humping him doesnt quite hit for me.

27. Intervention
Concept: Co-workers stage an intervention at another co-workers house.

This is the last of what I consider the bottom tier sketches. These could all be sorted around depending on how Im feeling. Its a bit disappointing that Season 1 ends with this sketch. The Garfield house is fine but the killer is nothing interesting and I dunno I shouldve probably put this last. I do like how intense the girl is about the house I guess.

26. Motorcycle
Concept: A man sees the world as motorcycles and is fascinated by it.

This is a pretty simplistic sketch, but the way in which Tim Robinsons character speaks is entertaining and fun to imitate.

25. Wilsons Natural Hair Loss System
Concept: Infomercial for a natural hair loss system

An infomercial is a fun tool for humor and often works for me. This sketch is no exception. The thing I love about ITYSL humor are the absurd reactions, and the lady calling him a piece of shit for wearing a toupee strikes that chord.

24. River Mountain High
Concept: Advertising and drama interwoven perfectly

This sketch is probably one of the more memorable. The song at the end is catchy and I love the principals commitment to TC Tuggers.

23. The Night Scrooge Saved Christmas
Concept: Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by the Ghost of Christmas Way Future

This sketch would be lower if not for the delivery of lines by Sam Richardson. Watching him coach Scrooge as he explains the situation is a blast.

22. New Boyfriend
Concept: A woman brings her new boyfriend to game night

I could put this higher. The sketch doesnt really deliver laugh out loud jokes, but the character Tim Heidecker plays is perfect and the way he constantly talks down to everybody is masterful.

21. Both Ways
Concept: A man tries to save grace leaving an interview

This is the perfect introduction to the series. Many of these sketches are about things being taken too far, often by one person. Short, to the point, and the mission statement of the series.

20. Christmas Came Early
Concept: A co-worker tries to make a joke about the new printer

A good play on awkward workplace humor. I love her commitment to the theme as none of the jokes are hitting.

19. The Magician
Concept: A date night causes a shift in a husband and wifes relationship

Cecily Strong kills it in this sketch. The vitriol with which she delivers her lines is fantastic.

18. Baby Shower
Concept: A man makes odd suggestions for a baby shower.

I could see this sketch being lower. I just really love the way Tim Robinsons character says it needs to be good for him or else no fucking deal while dramatic music is playing.

17. Strangers Revenge
Concept: A man enacts his revenge years later

This wouldve been higher not too long ago, but Ive learned to appreciate the other sketches. Will Forte does masterful work here and I like to replicate the way he says its not that gross in my day-to-day life.

16. The Babysitter Was Late
Concept: A man over commits to the excuse for being late.

I definitely appreciate the scenario of this sketch, but it does go on for just a tad too long and I wish they wouldve focused on his commitment to the excuse for a little longer. But what they did offer was wonderful.

15. Honk If Youre Horny
Concept: A driver takes a bumper sticker literally

This sketch could be so much higher but the pieces of it dont quite line up perfectly for me. I enjoy the scenario of a chronically horny man pleading for help and the song at the funeral is a banger, but put together they arent a cohesive whole.

14. Fentons Stables and Horse Ranch
Concept: Advertisement for ranch getaway

This could and probably should be lower, but the joke is just funny to me. I enjoy humor that targets masculinity and especially that targeted at male genitalia, but maybe thats because Ive come to terms with my penis size a long time ago. And I just adore how earnest the whole commercial is.

13. Viral Video
Concept: A man doesnt want to feel left out when sharing funny videos

Aka Bozo Dubbed Over. I thought the video was quite funny and I dont know what those other people were thinking. But seriously the way the other people play it straight to Tim Robinsons character desperately trying to explain the video is great.

12. Is That Caleb Wendt?
Concept: A man wants to impress a celebrity

Another sketch that feels like it could be lower, but Tim Robinsons voice paired with his aggressive refusal for help is brilliant. Its also an easily understood and relatable scenario and when you can picture being witness to it, that makes it all the more funny.

11. Fully Loaded Nachos
Concept: A man wants his date to share the fully loaded nachos

While Tim Robinsons high-pitched reactions to the situation falling apart around him are the star, the waiter is the MVP of this sketch. I loved the way he played the entire thing with a confused yet obliged manner.

the Tim Heidecker sketch is too low. It gave us Roy Donk. And the weird way Tim keeps calling it gazpacho soup.

Im not sure what my #1 is right now, but I will say I feel very strongly about the Chunky game show. Obviously the focus group is also incredible so its in contention there too.

I wish there was a fulller version of the Friday night song. Its so good, I assumed it had to be a preexisting song when I first heard it.

10. Hot Dog Car
Concept: A hot dog car crashes into a store and people try to find out who did it

This sketch probably benefits from the meme that branched from it. My favorite bit is probably when hes just listing off all the porn websites.

9. Dan Vegas Mega Money Quiz
Concept: A points-based game show

I really enjoy the display of a host experimenting with his show and trying to figure it out on the fly. It has a real young child making up a game as they go kind of vibe. His anger towards Chunky is wonderful and I just love him flat out saying they are just trying to find out what Chunkys deal is.

8. Look What I Just Posted
Concept: A group of girls post a picture to their Instagrams

Vanessa Bayer is pitch-perfect in this sketch and Im not sure I will ever not laugh at her delivery of lines like hog snarfing and no coffin please just wet wet mud. Kudos to the two girls playing straight as well. Their confusion is wonderfully depicted.

my favorite detail of the hot dog sketch is that he says when they find who did it they're gonna take his bare butt out of his costume to give him a spanking when he's the only one there wearing a costume

My friend keeps trying to get me into this show and I find it incredibly hit or miss. I go from cracking up like crazy at a sketch to being bored out of my mind at the next one.

7. Laser Spine Specialists
Concept: Infomercial showing customers inspired to perform all manner of tasks

I love how this sketch just suddenly veers way off track. You can see the actors in the recording studio doing their best not to crack as they deliver their lines and it gets me every time. Its also fun to just say Moon River Rock. Moon River Roll! Its the best kind of trainwreck.

6. Whoopie Cushion
Concept: An office prank is not taken well

One of my favorite forms of absurd humor is a far-reaching slippery slope and this sketch delivers that in spades. I also love the way Tim Robinson delivers his lines. Im not sure how to describe it but that way he says meatball down my pants is hilarious as well as the description of what his actual farts are like.

5. Has This Ever Happened To You?
Concept: A man details a situation that may have occurred to others as well

This sketch feels like its too high, but gosh dangit I just love me the turbo team. YOURE NOT PART OF THIS TURBO TEAM. YOU DON'T RUN WITH US. WE'RE THE ONES WHO RUN. UNTIL YOU ARE A PART OF THIS TURBO TEAM, WALK.SLOWLY. Everything else is great as well, but thats the highlight.

4. Focus Group
Concept: A focus group pitches car ideas

This might be the most well-known ITYSL sketch by this point. I debated putting it a spot or two higher, but this feels good. Ruben Rabasa is the star for good reason. His accent, probably real but also probably played way up for comedic effect, just hits in a funny way. Also, the way everybody else suddenly starts piling onto Paul is great too. You have. No. Good. Car. Ideas. Paul.

Episode one is probably my favorite episode of the series, as evidenced by four of the sketches being in my Top 10. Every episode has at least one high tier sketch, though.

I rank ITYSL season 2 sketches episode 1:

1. Cable ad
2. Haunted house
3. Competition
4. Hidden camera
5. Hotdog

episode 2:

I dont even know, the whole thing was so good. maybe every sketch ranks above the cable ad from ep 1, and I really liked that cable ad. I was a little worried after episode one that the new season might be too samey to really hit season ones heights, but this one nailed it.

Weakest was maybe the Bob Odenkirk one, hardest, longest single laugh was either the store commercial or the ending flashback to sloppy steaks.

ok I lost track of how to rank them, but I finished the season and it was very good again and Im bummed that its so quickly over

a lot of it feels very similar to sketches from the first season, but there were theoretically no characters reappearing (but a lot of Tims characters may as well be the same weird guys, even if theyre supposed to be new dudes)

I wish there was another episode or two to fit in more returning actors. I think Sam Richardson only gets one appearance, and Connor OMalley doesnt get good enough stuff to work with. I was hoping to see Vanessa Bayer too since her sketch in the first season was so good.

but Tim Heidecker gets a great one, and Patti Harrison has a couple strong appearances too, so thats cool. Plus they got Bob Odenkirk, who legally needs to be involved in all sketch comedy shows.

Its probably not as good as season one, but it still hits those heights sometimes. hopefully they get a chance to do another season.
