I know some of the folks here have played the Rune Factory series so I wanted to give you guys a heads up.

I'm a little bummed out but honestly though, this is kind of a good thing. Numerous reports and topics say that the game has a ton of bugs and framerate issues.

Hopefully with the delay, this gives the game a bit more time to sort those issues out before coming over here.

I wouldn't get your hopes up on that. More than likely it's just Covid-related delays in getting localization work done, not an effort to buy more time to patch issues. Major bugs may be patched in that time frame anyway, but stuff like framerate issues generally don't get ironed out post-launch because that's buried so deep in how the game has been made, and if they launched it despite being really buggy, they may not be committed to fixing that.

Shame, RF4 was amazing, and I was hoping RF5 could live up to that legacy.

It's already out in Japan. Has been for about 3 weeks. This is a localization delay, not a production one.

why would a localization be causing bugs and framerate issues?

There are bugs and framerate issues in the released JP version. The delay in the Western release is presumably not because they want more time to patch those problems, but because they've hit snags in localizing it.

Presumably time and budget constraints. They're just coming back from bankruptcy, after all, so I imagine they don't exactly have the funds to delay a game's launch indefinitely while they iron out problems. I think the whole 3D thing was probably a mistake, given how much more involved that is than a 2D game.
