My friends truck got hit by a red light runner yesterday. Older truck, maybe worth about $10k under normal circumstances, but had a new engine put in a month ago and new transmission a year ago. Body was in great condition.

The truck still runs but the bed is fucked, front end is fucked, and drivers door doesnt close right. Hes pretty sure itll be totaled.

Do they just determine the value based on year/make/model/miles or do they actually factor in that its worth more because of the new parts?

They only care about what is declared on the car.

You can insure a modded car, but you need to declare it beforehand and insure the mods, but if you only insure a 2010 Dodge Ram, they'll only pay out for the standard book value of the vehicle
