yea, it's probably the weakest area in the game, and the enemies suck, too.

I guess it's decent for fire spells and some other items, though.

even the devs knew it sucked so bad they just put the boss out front so you didn't have to deal with the innards if you didn't want to lmao

I really liked the giant crossbow and the lightning worm. Gave the place a nice sense of scale, but the tunnels SUCKED

The crossbow is fucking stupid. Maybe if they had actually done something like had enemies controlling it, it'd be fine. But it's just there shooting at you cause videogames. It's dumb and smells of doodoo.

It's weird how the ballista takes longer to get to than the boss. Like I thought maybe it was a short run to the boss because it defended by the worm and ballista combo, but the latter can easily kill the worm for you so this boss is like a freebie.

Well, you can get it to do a few things: kill the Carthus Worm, break the wall in front of the Speckled Ring, and smash open the floor to reveal another entrance to the Demon's Ruins.

As for enemies controlling it, I guess you're supposed to assume some of the undead patrolling the area were operating it. It is rather video-gamey though. At least with Sen's Fortress in DkS1 you could see, and later kill, the giants operating the traps.
