Sounds like a smart choice. You may not be on "my side", but you're in the side of sanity

I grew up in a military family that was pro-Bush and pro-McCain (but my parents chose to vote for Obama after Palin was announced because they were afraid McCain might die and she would take over). My dad even voted for Trump in 2016. But since 2017 theyve all flipped blue. They dont recognize the current GOP anymore.

I was conservative until I actually started caring about politics and realized conservative policies dont have a place in any modern society.

This is somewhat similar to my experience. Dad is extreme Republican but Mom's side is Democrat. When I was young I leaned my father's way. After I got out of high school I began thinking for myself and following things that affected me and my friends and family more closely. That and things that objectively seemed morally more aligned with my views.

Suffice to say, I am strongly against the majority of conservative "policies" now.

I can relate. Was just talking to my wife about it the other day.

I grew up in a republican household, and obviously absorbed a lot of that whether I wanted to or not. But as I got older and gained my own beliefs, I grew a lot more moderate, more progressive on social issues, and I guess more "libertarian" if you want to use that word.

My parents are die-hard Trump cultists now and are always trying to dunk on Biden and get me to join in with them, even though I don't particularly like or dislike the guy. But then because I fact check them on things, and talk shit about Tucker Carlson, they get annoyed at me lol.

I said to my wife though, that when I was younger and in college, the Republican party was generally about cold hard facts and freedom and shit. But the modern incarnation has just turned into a Trump worshipping band of cry babies who believe conspiracy bullshit. So it's like "Ehhh I don't think I can vote for you guys anymore?" (Though to be fair I I haven't voted Republican in like six years anyway, outside of local elections)

I consider myself conservative on most things (some conservatives disagree with me on that), however I don't believe in voting or the American system of government.

As a lifelong conservative, I feel like Republicans just aren't bringing up race enough. WTF? They want actual equal opportunity and acknowledgement of historical fact or something?

Everyone in this topic will likely attempt to deny it, but your average CEman never pays attention to the Topic Creator's username until it's too late. It's the only reason the Complete_Idiot gimmick was ever successful.

I've voted Republican 4 times in every election my whole life, but then Donald Trump called me a librul, and now I read a passage from Das Kapital every night before bed.

It's all been an eye-opening experience, really.

I agree. His saintly power comes from exploiting the inability / unwillingness of your average CEman to read past the headlines, so to speak. He is the hero we both need and deserve.
