I saw a social media post by the Milwaukee Brewers (I live in WI) advertising an upcoming clinic at the stadium.

Dozens, if not hundreds, of comments from anti-vax people. "Stick to baseball" this and "I don't want vaccine politics in sports" that.

I feel so helpless about it too. I can't convince my own anti-vax sister to change her viewpoint. They won't listen to reason or facts or history. Just propaganda and grifts from right-wing/fascist mouthpieces.

It's frankly bad faith to literally take a term "anti-vaxx" which referred to crazy people who thought decades tested vaccines caused autism and just slap it on anybody who is skeptical about a 1 year old vaccine that wouldn't yet be approved if not for the EUA.

It's like what people do with "racism", they will take all the emotional weight of the negative connotation of "racism" as defined by "burning crosses on lawns and hate crimes" and stick the same label on people making unfunny tweets.

If people communicated in less manipulative ways, people would have a lot easier time getting skeptics to listen. But I don't even know how many people even want that.

Be honest TC, if given the choice, dunking on these people for being dumb, or persuading them to get vaccinated (but they don't feel guilt or shame in the persuasion), which would you choose?

My parents keep trying to convince me to not get the rona vaccine.
In fact, my mom just sent me one of those Q freaks talking about how the vaccine will give us all gills or whatever.

Also I got the vaccine in March.

The good news is that enough people have gotten the vaccine that even the anti vax crowd is fairly safe. Not totally, but much safer than they were a year ago.

You get the vaccine to get everyone back to normal, including them. Thank you.

No, they are not. Very few anti-vaxxers are going to be pro-covid vaccine, but plenty of covid vaccine skeptics aren't antivaxxers.

Having one label to refer to a wide spectrum of things and then responding to all of those things with the same vitriol is a big part of the problem. 1st degree murder is worse than murder in the second degree. If we can acknowledge degree in murder we should be able to acknowledge it in less important things.

Most people i know who dont want the covid vaccine arent even anti-vaxxers in general to begin with. They just are skeptical about something that is so new and fresh which to me is completely understandable. And remember Big Pharma hasnt always been a good/ethical bunch.

And IIRC when Trump was promising a vaccine within a year he was getting all sorts of hate for making those sorts of claims and saying how vaccines needed to be properly tested etc. Now it feels like the same people who were hating on him are the same types who have no issues with taking this fresh vaccine.

A) Why are they still skeptical? There's plenty of information out there showing the minimal risks despite it being a new vaccine.
B) Who are "the same people" in your second point?

Cool. I don't want my life decisions restricted by politics either but here we are. At least a vaccine clinic can be ignored. Being able to fine trans healthcare, abortion clinics and other resources people need in some locations of the country however?

I haven't taken it yet because my doctor said not to touch any other medications until I see him next month to make sure that they play nice with each other, including the vax. Got my flu shot last year though, go figure.

What I find fascinating is this obligation to bully other people into taking it. I didn't take my flu shot for anyone else, same would be for the vaccine. Is this about secular humanism (fucking DOUBT) or is this about feeling safety in numbers?
