I kind of like them. I definitely like sweet more than tart/sour, but yeah, they also have a strange texture to them that isn't the greatest. golden delicious are better.

There is a reason they are shit, and it's the general public. People only bought the redest and biggest apples, you know what genes don't taste good? The ones that make them the redest and the biggest. But those are the ones that sold and so farmers selectively bred those.

Same reason why tomatoes aren't sweet anymore, and other fruits and vegetables are they way they are.

I wouldn't say the worst, but they're lousy. Crab apples tend to be a lot worse, particularly the ones that are just crabs shaped like apples.

It's crazy to me how bad Red Delicious are and then Golden Delicious are pretty solid. I'm still pretty partial to Honey Crisps though. Those bastards have taken over Michigan.
