And you get mad that someone you love gets cancelled.

I wanted John Cena to get canceled for his CCP shilling

I was also mad that Johnny Depp got canceled because no more Pirate movies.

I never want people to get cancelled.
I do want celebrities/companies to stay out of politics.

No one gets cancelled. They are held accountable for shitty actions.

If cancel culture wants to continue, it's only fair if supporters of both sides of politics are held accountable i.e - everyone who referred to the former President as Hitler

But yeah, good luck with that right

The only people I want to see get cancelled are the people who go out of their way to get other people cancelled.

To be fair to him, it almost certainly wasn't his choice or his own views.

The studio probably gave him a sheet of bullet-points to hit to advertise his film, and like the good soldier he's always been he did it. Then the blowback happened, the studio panicked because they don't want to lose all that wonderful Chinese yuan, so they ordered Cena to go out and apologize immediately. Westerners getting upset was pretty much inevitable, but it's a small price to pay.

The studio (and most corporations, honestly) is more willing to accept Western criticism and backlash because Westerners are fickle as fuck and most of them will forget about the entire mess the next time they see a new cat picture on their Twitter feed, or the next celebrity outrage opportunity comes along to hate-jerk over. And worst-case scenario, Cena's the one who's going to get left swinging in the wind if things get too bad - no one's going to shit on Universal for setting him up to fail, and they can go on making tons more money even if he never works again. So fuck him, right?

The average person doesn't give a shit about the politics of China/Taiwan (if they're aware of them at all). Cena probably didn't know or care about any of that mess before he got sucked into it. The people you should be directing your animosity towards are the corporations that don't give a shit about politics or human rights issues as long as they can make money. Those are the people who give China carte blanche to get away with shit.

I don't care about the word 'cancelled' and consider it a buzzword that obfuscates the reality of a situation.
