Having the fate of a persons life to be determined by a couple of hours of interaction: Whats on paper vs first impressions (getting that vibe), Q&A, rating them against other candidates and then basically taking in other colleagues input to somehow say thats the one

I'm trying not to overthink it.

Makes the whole process seem overly dramatic. If they don't get a job at one company, they'll get it at another.

Whichever side you're on, it's often not much fun. While figuring out whether they're actually qualified to do the job and a good fit for the company is one thing, the other part of it is that you and your coworkers are going to have to live with this person. It's why a lot of interviewers wind up favoring personality over better qualifications (with the exception of HR since HR drones don't give a fuck; after all, they aren't going to see much of the new hire).

This is true. Im able to pick up on this but other coworkers are easily swoon.

For certain positions, yes. Some employers might be looking for key factors of competency but really they are looking for potential for acclimation of growth within the company standards.

Just assume that you'll look worse than the liar by default. You probably won't have to do anything special on your end, unless there's no liar.
