Holy fuck... So Astel/Reid/Noah team won an Apex tournament called the Kagayaki Tournament... That had multiple current or recently ex pros and several predators. They literally won by a single point, which they got by Astel 1v3 clutching then soloing from the 12th place and picking up 3 kills with the last kill being a revenge kill on Yukio whose team killed Reid and Noah earlier. Absolutely insane win

Well she never played Sonic until this year right? And now look at where she is with that. So perhaps she'll dive into Zelda at some point too.

It's interesting though because she did play Cadence of Hyrule. She definitely knows a bunch about the series it seems. I saw a comment mention she watched her dad play some of the games at least. Still, certainly a surprise that she hasn't played them yet.

Man Coco's last meme review was both the greatest and the saddest. I think after Matsuri's, I never missed it live. Seeing the live comments and contributing to the chaos was a big part of the fun. I'm glad she ended with Kiara cuz she reciprocates with greater energy and maintained it for a whole 2 hours.

Man the weekends are gonna be less exciting for sure...

I didn't play the series till I was an adult. And I never even knew it existed until the first Super Smash Bros. came out.

Kinda felt something like that was the case. Dunno, she seemed the... friendly competitive type from what I picked up? The kind of person that likes to help others be their best, and then when they're done with it they start "Why can't I do that/this?" and not even realize they're doing it. I imagine it only got worse when she couldn't even open up her chats to talk to non-members for so long.

Sad to see her go, but it was an enjoyable trip.

I didn't watch the last two minutes or so because I've got to leave, but essentially she seems to have gotten stuck in a mentality of comparing herself to other people she worked with, realized what she was doing, and got trapped in a little self deprecating spiral it seems?

She felt the new guidelines restricted her creativity.

She found herself constantly comparing herself to the more musically-talented members and getting into a state of self-doubt/envy and she didn't like that.

Combining those two, she felt like it was time for her to go.

hololive in general seems to be moving more into a music/idol direction and I can't say I'm a super big fan of it personally. I mean, I guess it was always there for some of them but it seems to be becoming a bigger and bigger thing for more and more of them

I remember when I first saw hololive, I thought it was just an oversaturation of vtubers and typical idol bullshit so I didn't bother really looking into it. Coco was the one who changed my mind and got me interested.

I'm not a big idol guy either, but Holo wouldn't be nearly as big without the idolisms. At least like in Niji, the popularity or crowd discrepancy btwn girls who were doing idol and those who wouldn't be considered an idol would be pretty huge. Because they're all basically considered to be in an idol group together, when one gets popular, all the others get popular at the same time. Nothing stops them from doing any combination of games/singing/dancing streams either, and girls like Coco even learn to enjoy singing due to the status

But if I'm being super honest, I think Suisei's really the only one making a high end effort, especially when she's not really being backed by any brand and is basically an indie within a giant idol group (but with a lot of money to work with lol). Azki is obviously like a more pure form of idol but she doesn't do enough of other things so she ends up feeling like an outsider. But in terms of striving for constant improvement and not being content with coasting, it's Suisei for sure. She's doing a song per month, and by the end of it, she really should have enough original songs to pull out an album, and it'll be an album of songs entirely set up and funded by herself.

Other than that, tbh most girls kinda do a cover or a compilation song every once in a while and that's about it. Most of their shows are covers too. That's cuz idol is just a marketing gimmick for Cover, and they aren't really an idol focused company in reality, otherwise they'd set aside some bigger picture plan and fund to let each girl shine as an idol.

Suisei and Kiara I think were the ones who joined specifically to be idols. Kiara's a bit insecure with her music, however, but she has released...about 6 songs since she joined, two of which are original. More than a lot of members. Moona also mentioned that she thought Hololive was an idol agency (not a virtual idol agency) so you can add her to that list. And Haachama was a pretty consistent artist when they weren't worrying about copyright.

Calli's definitely most prolific music artist, though. But she's not an idol.

That's not to say I don't think the rest of the girls don't want to be idols. Many of them have expressed a clear desire/interest in doing so. It's just that I think out of Hololive, I'd say only 6-8 of them joined specifically to pursue music as their main gig, with streaming on the side.

And then there's Holostars, where all of them can sign for whatever reason lol though Rikka, Shien, Astel and Izuru are definitely the ones interested in music...and Apex.

I think there's efinitely more than just that. like, there's that new literal idol group of subaru/aqua/nene who are singing an anime OP this coming season and it seems like they're constantly recording stuff, they've basically all significantly dropped in stream amount recently because they're too busy / too tired from all the dance lessons and recordings and stuff
