In gen 3 Wally caught a shiny ralts right in front of my eyes, sadly once I battled him he had a regular one. I was so mad back then

But I also didn't play any between Crystal and X, aside from a bit of Emerald like a year before I got X.

Think I've played like 5 games with them available and I think I only ever capture a single natural one.

Excluding guaranteed ones and any i intentionally hunted:

Caught a shiny Poochyena in Sapphire when I was a kid. Never seen a wild shiny since.

R/S: two completely random + one reset scumming. edit: had that backwards. treeko resets, wild whismer and nincada.

G/S: gyarados -> ditto trick -> everything that can breed with ditto. it was a long vacation.

Wasn't shiny Ditto really easy to catch in that first one on the DS?

Pretty sure that is the only one I caught.

I used to be quite an avid shiny hunter... probably have over 100 spread across various generations. The big ones were soft resetting for all 28 possible ones in ORAS

Shinies are way too easy to get nowadays. Especially after the shiny rate was doubled in gen 6, not to mention all the ways to hunt like Friend Safari, fish chaining, SOS, dens, etc. The real rarity is with marked shinies. In gen 8 each Pokemon has a 1/20 chance to get a mark if you have the Mark Charm, and if you have the Shiny Charm it's much more desirable.

Oddish was my first in the wild non scripted one, then it was Nidirino in the Safari Zone. 3rd was a Mew in my randomized Crystal game.

Completing the IoA dex gives you the Mark Charm which allows much easier access to special ribbons on any wild Pokemon. Before the DLC, any wild Pokemon would have a 1/100 chance of being caught with a mark on the ribbon screen, but with the charm it raises it to 1/20 chance. Catching wild shinies isn't too difficult if you're looking for them, so traders put much more value on a wild shiny that was caught with the mark. There are different rarities of marks, Uncommon Mark and Sleepy-Time Mark would be the most common and Rare Mark would be the absolute rarest. But there are also personality marks and weather marks that can be matching with the shiny, like a Stormy Mark Shiny Shinx.

The only marked shiny I've caught was an Sleepy-Time Mark Shiny Hattrem while I was looking for the Shiny Authentic Sinistea.

Just reading this hurts my soul. I've been breeding perfect IV shinies and it kills me that I can't breed this fucking thing. My luck is so shit, there's no way I'm ever going to get anything above like 2 IVs.

When I was a kid the first pokemon I saw in firered when I got pokeballs was a shiny ratatta, it was the greatest thing ever lol

now I have a couple of shiny pokemon I got in the 3DS version of pokemon silver, bit tedious but worth it to have my favs shiny

The only shiny I ever caught in the wild was via a modified copy of Firered. The mod didn't affect shiny rates so I count it as legitimate, but you're free to take that with a grain of salt.

It was a Pidgey, though.

Actually, I also caught a shiny Stunfisk in Shield. But that's neither here nor there.

Blue Ditto (from the Gyrados/cut hack trick in Blue/Red)

In the wild:
Poliwag from chain fishing. Evolved to Politoed.
Mime Jr in a.....horde? Whatever the term is from X and Y when the group of low level Pokemon appear. Had to whittle each one of those things down to make sure the shiny was the last one. Evolved to Mr. Mime and it was on my Fairy-Monotype team the rest of the way.

Cleffa was the 1st one I got that wasn't the red Gyarados in Crystal version. It was from one of the eggs you get in the game too! I didn't know Cleffa was a shiny until the realization hit me when I started shiny hunting in Diamond/Pearl WAY later lol. She's forever gone because I replayed the game so many times! Damn....... ;_;

i caught a shiny chandelure mid evolution in a friend safari once. Its nature was garbage and I got upset.

Before Sword / Shield, I generally would get 1-2 per game. Sword and Shield I used to be able to manipulate raid dens so I could get whatever shiny Pokemon I wanted. Getting Lucario was a tough one, but it was definitely worth it.

A few in AS. Off the top of my head there was a shiny wild Oodish and Zigzagoon and at least one from breeding. The professor also handed me a shiny Cyndaquil.

In Ruby (og) I found and caught a shiny Swablu

No grinding or Action Replay. Just a coincidence. Blew my mind as a kid.
