I'm one minute in and don't care to watch the whole vid. Jordan Peterson is a garbage human, but so far in this exchange he's being entirely reasonable. Anything that happens beyond then 1:08 mark I can't speak of, though.

Woman asks Jordan how he thinks people should react to things that are bigger than them (like global warming, or the economy) when most people will never have the assets required to fully enact change. Her first question did also end in an insult "beyond your benel comments like "clean your room"".

So JP said that it's difficult to answer a question that ends in an insult and asked her to re-state it without the insult, which she does.

His answer to that was to fix yourself first, before worrying about bigger issues.

The next part is beyond the TLDR. More of an explanation from my point of view.

He did and didn't answer her question. An important part of her question was the *not getting assets enough to be able to change the world*. He ignored that part of the question. But to be fair, that part has to be ignored, because her question, with that included, basically is asking "how do you do X when Y stops you 100% of the time". Well, in that case, X is impossible to do.

So he answered under a different framework. That if you do want to enact change, you have to change your way of thinking. Instead of thinking Y will stop me 100% of the time, so there's no point in trying. Think that you just need to change yourself for the better first, then changing the world becomes possible.

You also forgot the part where he told her to restate the question so there's an actual question there when she did in fact asked a question but I guess the snide comment in the end triggered him so bad that he forgot it. Also,your last two paragraphs are complete nonsense.

Honestly, she was obviously not a fan of his, but he's the professional, not her, and he came off as a huge asshole--to the point where the host had to "reexplain" the question to him repeatedly because he wasn't really answering it.

The host didn't re-explain the question. JP asked a question back to the woman and the host told JP that they're not there to go back and forth, and just to continue with the answer.

The host totally reexplained the question (literally saying such)...and the back-and-forth was just a further demonstration of his lack of professionalism which the host was trying to stop

There's an old adage I'm reminded of, something along the lines of "to best help the world, take care of yourself first". Basically you make sure you're living a sustainable life and not being a burden. From there, you can reach self-actualization and produce and contribute significantly to world and community around you.

Reading your post and then going to the video, I understood Petersen perfectly, but this is a difficult question to answer and the answer is going to be even more difficult to believe since it's not a straight forward answer and it requires the understanding of the adage I mentioned.

People have more power than they realize, from being able to influence others just by their lifestyles alone and their own personal successes, and it's very difficult to quantify but there are opportunities available to those who are creative and/or daring enough to find them.

These are going to sound like hollow words until you experience this for yourself. This is why OP was so hostile to your post.

I know of two different youtubers who talk extensively about different types of women to avoid who get a lot of female views; Alexander Grace and Kevin Samuels. It hasn't stopped them from generating a larger female audience.

To be fair, Peterson sells the "clean your room" point as banal and obvious, since that's kind of the point of that advice, so I dont know why he got so triggered over it.
