I know many will say the brand is overrated (I kind of agree, the hype is unjustified), but I do love a Submariner with some color. The green bezel goes from a light green to a dark green depending on the light which is pretty funky.

You mean a date? The Datejust is another watch entirely. But yes, a date is actually very practical. I definitely appreciate the symmetrical look of a no-date but they don't have a no-date Submariner in green, so I got the date.

Dude I love those brands. I have a Seiko SKX009J and am in love with that watch. Japanese watches are best value for money, can't beat them.

Oh and yes I'm a lefty, so the right wrist feels natural to me.

The blue Submariners only come in precious metals, so you'll be looking at $35k upwards. I suppose there's still the two tone Submariner which is below $20k.

I got it new from an authorized dealer, so I paid MSRP (~$10k). Second hand they are going for around $17k, no way I'd pay that. I was on tbe waiting list for 2.5 years, initially for the Hulk, which was discontinued last September. They kept me on the list for this one, which I actually prefer. Love the contrasting subdials and the more ergonomic case shape.

Yeah, I got on the list in March 2019 originally for the Hulk. This one was released September 2020, luckily they automatically put the people waiting for the Hulk on the list for this reference.

I know, it's ridiculous. The wait list for the Daytona (which I'm waiting for since 2018) they told me 4-6 years at the time. When I was buying this one, I overheard a salesperson telling a customer 10-12 years lmao. By then the current Daytona will be discontinued, no doubt.

I just wrote in his topic. Might not apply to his AD, but going by personally is a must if you want to buy a desirable Rolex model at list price.

Bribes won't work because whatever amount you're bribing the AD with is not worth them risking the right to call themselves a Rolex AD. Most ADs that lose Rolex shut down almost immediately after because their AD is riding on the Rolex brand. They sell other brands too of course but the fact is, a huge percentage of people walk into that AD because they see the Rolex logo on the storefront. So yeah, whatever amount you want to bribe them with should be spent on buying that model on the gray market instead.

Nah got it at an authorized dealer my hometown Zurich Switzerland. I mean it's pretty much as liquid as a casino chip so while I don't intend to sell it, you could use it the same way as you would a casino chip, except it tells the time and date.

I just made a long post on his topic on how to handle waitlists when it comes to Rolex, check that post out, it might help you.

For a first Rolex the new Oyster Perpetuals in 41mm are fantastic, costing around 6k. It's also the model that No_U's topic was about. They are no-date watches, so you have a simple, symmetrical, uncluttered design. These are literally watches for pretty much every occasion. Robust, great proportions, weather resistant with the steel bracelet, and 100m water resistance with a screw down crown. It's the perfect Rolex in my opinion, and also the most affordable. The good thing about the Oyster Perpetual is you can actually get them with a bit of patience since they aren't under the "professional" line of Rolex models which are typically quite hard to get.

AR coating has been an issue with me too, I'm personally not a fan since the AR coating scratches and smudges quite easily. The point of a sapphire crystal is that it doesn't scratch, so having AR coating on the outside that scratches and smudges defeats the purpose of a sapphire crystal.

Yes, the new models actually have AR coating on the inside of the crystalwhich is a great compromise. No scratching and smudging, and barely any reflection. Overall I am really digging the way the crystal looks compared to my watches that have AR coating on the inside and outside, or no AR coating at all.

nice, good to know. yeah im fine with AR on the inside only. i love my omegas with AR on the outside, but havent had them long enough to see what the wear looks like

I really just do not understand the appeal. I know its a "social" thing but the yield of social status you get from a nice looking watch thats worth a few hundred bucks versus a rolex is almost nothing compared to the yield of upgrading your style and fitness in general. Someone who is fit and dresses really well with a $300 watch is much more socially respectable than a CEman looking guy who wears a $5000 watch.

Even in a formal setting, spending 90% of that money on a nice suit and 10% on a watch will go a much longer way than spending 90% on a watch and 10% on a suit.

The only watches I could see people spending big on are watches that are smart watches like the apple watch.

Big Money Wasted is a knock at BMW cars but it really should be applied to watches that cost $5,000.
