which is still some form of approval...its not like theyre gonna automatically approve injecting rat poison into people because a company says it might help.

Actually not really. It was given "emergency use approval" which means it didn't really pass any usual guidelines under normal procedures.

With that said I don't think it's weird that some people would rather wait to get the vaccine.

It's also perfectly acceptable for stores to enforce masks for the un-vaccinated.

As long as your service isn't denied based on race, religion, creed, gender identity, sexual orientation or national origin, you can be refused serviced for literally any other reason.

(Since sexual orientation is protected this is why a bakery can't turn away a couple for a gay wedding cake).

Unfortunately enough people agree with your friends that, in the Democratic country, it's actually true. I don't have a count on the number of states doing this yet but plenty are passing laws against "vaccine passports" (proof of covid vaccination) which is the only actually enforceable way to require masks of the unvaccinated.

Of course we also live in a capitalist country so even if it weren't for that companies have little incentive to deny service to anyone anyway
