The hot tub meta has dominated Twitch throughout 2021, and Amouranth has arguably been its poster girl. With the platform only allowing streamers to wear certain attire in contextual exceptions, the hot tub has become a prime location for certain streamers.
However, Amouranths status as the Queen of Hot Tubs was up in the air after she was surprisingly demonetized by Twitch, prompting speculation that she would end up ditching hot tub streams for good.

Amouranth was set to lose just shy of half a million dollars in revenue as a result of this demonetization and caused worries that Twitchs ability to demonetize channels without warning could set a dangerous precedent.

On her May 22 stream, Amouranth explained that Twitch had reverted its decision to demonetize her channel, but with a catch. She would now be making significantly less money from ads than she did previously.
For comparison, before the demonetization, I was getting $1000 a day in advertisements, she explained. Yesterday, I streamed for like 15 hours, had a 15,000 viewer average, and had $130 in ad revenue.

This means that if she were to stream every day for a year, she would now receive $47,450 in ad revenue an annual loss of up to $440,000.

I have a hard time feeling bad for her in particular.

Shell be fine. Her patreon alone pulls like $30k+ a month assuming everyone who subscribes to it is at the minimum tier. Nevermind all her donations, chat tips and subscriptions on twitch plus whatever she pulls in on her fan site.

Everything they do is shady and with as little transparency as possible. Seems like this one person was made an example of for a type of stream that they gave an entire category to days later.

She took advantage of the bubble until it popped. It was smart, but it obviously wasnt going to last forever.

While I don't really bad for her personally, I do dislike that twitch (and youtube etc) just all change their rules seemingly at random, without proper warning or essentially support minor rule breaking while it brings them money and then suddenly change their mind when investors say no without properly warning their content creators.

I mean, these hot tub people were clearly exploiting a technicality in the rules. They meet the bare minimum requirements of a "hot tub," which is most often an inflatable kiddie pool in their bedroom, to have an excuse to wear extremely skimpy clothing. It's just porn.

Advertisers have a right to choose the sort of content their brand is attached to, and if they don't want to be associated with porn, then it's up to Twitch to separate the categories appropriately. Twitch and the advertisers did nothing wrong in this case.

This is absolutely true. It's probably one of the reasons the advertisers were so pushy about it. They don't want their products to be mentioned in the same breath as "those sites" that literally sell pornography. Using Twitch as a pipeline to get young and/or impressionable guys to spend hundreds of dollars a year on donations and 'pay sites' seems pretty scummy, don't you think?

This. She probably has a patreon where shes making all this back. Ad revenue is now just gravy for these folks.

This was ultimately an inevitability of the loophole abuse. The content was drifting closer and closer to adult content at least from how advertisers view it. And adult content never pulls the advertising money that non-adult content does. So the advertisers are either gonna want to pull their ads entirely or get a discount. Thus hurting the monetization.

This isn't a judgement of any of the hot tub streamers. Get that money while you can. But if they weren't expecting this to happen, then they lacked a greater understanding of how web advertisements work because this was the obvious conclusion.

None of this justifies how bad Twitch has been at communicating though. Your streamers shouldn't have to guess or be surprised about being demonetized. They should have communicated clearly that the content they are creating results in a notable decrease in advertising revenues and as a result they will be receiving less (or no) advertising money pending a change in content. Like there is a perfectly justifiable reason for why they doing it. You just have to explain it.

Her ad revenue was just a small fraction of her income related to streaming. Thats why she continued hot tub streaming even after she was demonetised without warning. Shes also pulling 3-5x more viewers doing hot tub streams than what she was before she started doing it - so overall its clearly worth it for her to continue even with the pathetic ad revenue she gets now.

Also lets not forget that all these thots are competing for the same viewers. So if Amouranth stops hot tubbing, shes gonna lose a significant chunk of viewership to a competing thot that continues doing it. And thats how the meta is born.
