Or that of any establishment, really, when said establishment is closed. The parking is usually reserved for patrons using the services of the establishment. But if no such services are being offered,

I must have these answers.

While maybe there is a local law that overrides it, as far as I know it's not illegal to park in any non-residential lot unless there is signage specifically indicating that you cannot. It's just that most people don't because it's typically impractical.

Technically, using any parking lot for something other than the business the lot is for is "illegal" in the sense that you can be towed for it. In practice, you can usually get away with it unless either the business owner or someone nearby is enough of a prick to call to turn you in. It also probably depends whether or not you're in a more urban locale where parking is trouble in general, or a more wide-open rural space.

It's also more of a grey area if the lot isn't posted and you could make the argument that it's more of a "communal" lot, but if it's blatantly posted with signs that say "X customer parking only" it's more clear-cut.

Post office? No, it shouldn't be. That's public land. A bank? Maybe that's trespassing, but unless they have some existing arrangement with the police or a towing company, they'd need to contact somebody. However, cops can still ask you to leave.

And, in theory, there are places that mention that parking is limited to certain people during certain hours where logically outside of those hours anybody should be able to park there >_>

Unless there's signage that says, "Parking restricted to customers of _________, max time XX minutes", pretty sure it's legal to park in those places.

Even then, if you're in that lot when the business is closed, there's roughly a 0% chance you will face any repercussions for it. No one will be at the business to report your vehicle and get it towed, and no business will pay parking enforcement to patrol their lot outside of business hours.

I mean, everyone will meet one jerkwad eventually who will report them; but most people don't care especially if it's closed. Unless there's a special arrangement or security on-duty paid to be suspicious of parkers when the place is closed you proooobably won't get called. However, like I said, there MIGHT be a local law in place that is being enforced (assuming you got towed) but if you're asking for general knowledge the answer is that 'typically, unless there's a sign in place, there's nothing illegal or it's so minor no one really cares'.
