It's probably significantly cheaper to host and manage, or their lawyers said if it's hosted on Discord that puts the legal onus on them if something unsavory gets posted and they take too long to mod it. I doubt the reason is anything other than money.

That seems really stupid unless their forums have such a dwindling user base to the point that it's a waste of time to bother having staff moderate it. Forums and Discord have completely different purposes.

Well the Bethesda forums are probably mostly just social posts. If you ask a question a mod will probably move it into some dead zombie thread that people don't check.

Yeah, it's cool. It functions like a 90s chat room, actually. It's probably the least invasive social media app too in regards to algorithms.

Eh, not a huge deal. There are still other sites like Gamefaqs and Reddit that will have answers

And usually if the discord is active and well organized, there's a separate channel for FAQs/guides and another for general questions. And you can search for old things posted on a channel.

The forum merge wont keep all the archived topics? That is a fucking stupid move. The only value this site really has is it's guides and archived topics. We really don't need a repeat of the 2008 archive purge.

It can be good, but often is full of the most toxic of fans. So basically use it for pinned guides and never interact with whoever is in it, if using a gaming discord.

I've never used a forum or social app in the last 25+ years that didn't have toxic users. It just comes with the format.

True enough, but basically any discord for a game (in my experience) has been awful with how much they gatekeep and toxicity they spew to anyone new/asking questions. And then often have fantastic guides so I just stick to searching for those. In a forum it's usually much easier to ignore them as it's not a live experience.
