So a few weeks ago I setup with a new bank. I opted not to go for overdraft protection. In between my 1st and 2nd paychecks I was charged for some OD fees anyway. They waived some but not the last one, she said they can only do 2 waives per period but if I took an online financial literacy course shed wave the 3rd.

Without raising my voice or using any inappropriate language, I gave them a piece of my mind, stating that Id opted out of Overdraft allowal and that the charge should have just been rejected if I didnt have enough in the account at the time. She said something about how debit cards are an exception, which, 99% of transactions are on cards and not ACH eo I felt that was very misleading.

Today I started to ask her if there was a time limit on the class, and I think I caught her off guard because she said something like "This is about you, not us" and it wasnt until I walked away that I realized the implication.

I was just asking about the time limit for the class if any, and she was apparently thinking I was complaining for something that in fact was misrepresented to me, but I digress, I wasn't.

Im so angry Im thinking about *truly* being nasty to her (without crossing any lines), since thats what she expects of me anyway.

Help me to calm down??

Once, my mom called at least one of the girls working at the cookie store a "dumb bitch." She's usually very nice until you make her mad. Works in my favor, though. Like when she got me a free plane ticket...

Also, a co-worker was on the phone with the base hospital once and got really mad. He said something like, "Don't make me come down there and blow up." But the girl on the line took it as a bomb threat. He immediately realized the way he phrased it was wrong, but it was too late. Though, when talking to whoever, they understood that he didn't mean he was going to blow up the hospital...

Also, TC, something that might help is the bank app... Personally, before I buy anything, I always check my account which stays current. Like I can check my app immediately after buying something and the charge will show. And if not an app, some banks still offer text for checking accounts. If could help with watching for overdrafts. Whenever I'm not sure about the amount in my bank, I check. I also check daily. And I normally check before buying something at stores.

But Smarkil is right that maybe you should have overdraft protection. It can actually help so that this won't happen again. But if you're really against it, the apps/bank texting could help...

Yeah, if overdraft is a problem or possibility you should get the protection or be checking your account often to cover yourself until you're in a better situation. That really is a situation where you should be monitoring your account and not relying on the bank to stop you from spending money you don't have.

In 2013, my bank asked if I'd talk to a financial advisor about putting some of my savings in a bond fund w/ PIMCO.
The guy was a good salesman, showed how in 25 years, there was only one year with a negative return and it was only -1%, the rest were all modestly good returns. Sick of the Fed fucking me over as a saver, I put $25K into it.
...Only for the bond market to plunge, hard. After the first week, I called and asked about options to bail on the fund. He told me I'd face an early withdrawal penalty for not keeping it in for a year, and that was my only option.
Another week of plunging rates and frantic unanswered calls before he finally answered, and this time told me I could move it to a money market account w/ PIMCO that earns basically 0% but at least is safe to avoid the fee. I lost $2K, and half of that was in between the first and 2nd call, when he straight up LIED to me.
I withdrew all of my money from that bank and refuse to ever bank with them again, and told them exactly why.
Capital One Bank can go fuck themselves.

("Why didn't you just ride it out?"
Because that was unprecedented losses spurred once again by the Fed, my mortal enemy, and bonds aren't fucking stocks. They get like 3% a year, they can't just recover so easily from freaking 10%+ losses)

weird... i can't overdraft my debit card, like, at all - it's a hard and built rule that you can't debit any money you don't have (at least at my bank)

US banks work hard to force people into paying more "fees".
