22 Passengers were hanging for dear life after a ROLLER COASTER they were riding on STALLED and they were off 20 FEET off the ground for 2 hours on a horiztonal loop!!

The Phoenix Fire Department said the Desert Storm ride at Castles N' Coasters got stuck before rescure crews were dispatched and escorted the riders to safety using a 30 foot ladder

There was no word on what cause it to freeze up and no injuries were reported

Terrifying images showed passengers being carried down to safety as Joseph Almarez said "It was scary because we were sitting on the edge".

Christopher Almarez said "There were a lot of kids on there that were really terrified. There was actually one kid that i was trying to hold onto because she was so small. She coudln't hold herself up. They had to unlock the thing to hold us on. They had to unlock it but they were holding us and helping us get on the ladder to get back down"

12 y/o Joseph Almarez said they had to JUMP from ladder to ladder

On the website, it says the ride "Tests your senses and courage as you challenge the excitement of the vertical drops, spins and flips of the awesome Desert Storm Roller Coaster"

Would depend on orientation. Being able to sit casually like that? I would imagine id be fine. Doubt id take being upside down very well though.

The trees are a good 8+ feet away and they would have been starting from a seated position at an awkward angle, and that's assuming they could get the bar out of the way. Plus there are no branches or good place to grab a hold while jumping. You'd have to hope you could hit the tree then wrap your arms around at it the same time, which isn't necessarily easy.

Honestly, you'd have a better chance just lowering yourself from the coaster and dropping. Assuming that the coaster doesn't move while you're holding on at the bottom, that goes from being a 20 ft drop to a 14-15 ft drop. You're still better off staying in your seat at that point, but the risk of injury is lower than trying for the tree.

Otherwise it's kinda worth nothing that a lot of coaster fatalities only happen because people try to save themselves.
