Reading the article, I'm leaning towards more of a "Fair, Next." I don't think the person in question is under explusion review for just saying "all women have vaginas".

Exactly, it's pretty clear that the actual argument she made was more along the lines of "only people born with vaginas are women."

Funny you word it like that. I often find that people who spend their lives in video games tend to believe in the worlds of video games and their strictly set rules. Attack A does B damage. Character C always responds well to dialogue D. Never a change or alteration to those strict rules.

Then people like you try to apply those beliefs into the real world: "why don't woman like me after I give her # presents?", "why doesn't law G apply equally to race H, race I, and race J?", "why aren't we all just perfectly and distinctly Gender X and Gender Y?"

You'd rather have a simply defined world so you seek to presume that the real world can be explained in those similar simple definitions, and you cry foul when things don't match up to your biases.

And here we are. You making a topic about a woman being transphobic and trying to frame it like everyone else is crazy besides you and her.

In all seriousness you should be able to discuss the most ridiculous offensive ideas and be fine, so long as those ideas are being discussed and not used to harass people.

Like people should be able to have the discussion "are white people an inferior race?" But what shouldn't happen is that they be able to harass white people on campus.

So too should people be able to have the discussion "how important is biological sex in gender" so long as they aren't harassing trans people.

If you aren't able to freely express ideas in college then we've really lost our way as a society.

Please list where they redefine sexual biology. As noted, the best I can find is studies on brain chemistry and reaction to hormones. While yes, it demonstrates strong similarities to the targeted sex, it doesn't create a new definition. Women's healthcare is still going to be about traditionally women's organs. Trans men may still get pregnant, and trans women may still impregnate.

At what point does "I require feeling comfortable discussing the most ridiculously offensive ideas I can come up with" work against "I require feeling physically safe and not discriminated for a physical aspect of myself I can't control"?

University is not just about coming up with the stupidest things you can come up with; it's also about teaching people how to present ideas while still considering the ramifications of having presented those ideas.

How long have you been out of university that you remember it as "a free-for-all of people trying to out-offend each other academically"?

People should stop saying they are. People shouldnt just be able to freely talk about or debate any issue they want.

Theyre not entitled to free speech without repercussions just because theyre on a university campus. Its not some kind of holy grounds or sanctuary cities to protect freedom of speech - even when its hate speech.

If their way of thinking isnt in line with everyone else at university then maybe they shouldnt be there to begin with.

I'm pretty sure the existence of trans people is scientific. They objectively exist and can be proven. The science says a trans woman cannot be born with 2 X chromosomes or a vagina. It does not prove that they are fake women or whatever.

The mature final-year student told the Times she was reported by younger classmates after she said women were born with female genitals and that the difference in physical strength of men versus women is a fact.

Is there any other context other than she made the statements during lecture session? I mean was she asked what her opinion was? Was this part of some project? What?

Isn't like 95% of the population of males/females are born with the traditionally, associated genitals?

I've checked like six sources and they all have roughly the same information. Only extra bit I could find is that it was a "virtual discussion on "gender feminism and the law"". I'm sure there's no way the public will ever actually see that discussion's content, so we have no clue if Ms. Keogh was being disruptive and awful or "just asking questions". I saw a bit in Newsweek that says she was muted by the speaker during the discussion, so that raises my eyebrow on how disruptive she might have been.

Funnily enough, TC could have posted from less of a rag and probably would have been thought better for it.

Oh and for those raising an eyebrow at "mature", it's (as I understand it) common to refer to students who begin university when they're older than 21 as "mature" in the UK.

No they're not, they're supposed to be places of learning. In my experience, students tend to overshare and think too highly of their opinions. No one cares about your hot takes, you're not getting paid to teach.

Correct. Basically used for those who don't just immediately go onto it after college/school or after a gap year. Mostly for adults who go to it later in life.

And yeah, for those complaining she is being investigated, the University has to investigate after student complaints. We have no idea of anything beyond that yet.
