Wine tasting hang out thing today was a big success. Went through about half of 11 different bottles between the three of us. Cousin's wife had small sips of each so I don't count it. Spent the day outside around the long rectangle fire pit table thing he built. Entire area is covered in pea gravel so fun to walk around barefoot.

My girl is looking for a new job now. She's been a manager at this restaurant for 2 years now and even after so many people quit during covid and she held the fort down during it all, they still won't give her anymore raises and have scheduled her on approved days off twice now, citing because they don't have enough employees.

She's been trying to get out of food service for a while now, but she was waiting to get a new car so she'd have reliable transportation, and she finally got one last week after saving up for a good while and she's wasting no time putting in apps on Indeed lol. She had an interview this morning at a dentist's office that pays like $4 more an hour and she thinks it went well, so keep the fingers crossed!

Heck yeah man, hoping for the best. Wife worked for a restaurant in our younger years and it sounds like similar treatment. No one gets the appreciation, pay or recognition they deserve, it turns into a dead end pit of a job. Hope she can get out and land the new job.

Yeah I worked in food service for almost a decade before I finally found a way out. It's a vicious cycle because food service jobs for the most part don't build your resume up for jobs outside of the food service industry. She wanted to apply as a retail manager but a lot of the stores required retail management experience and essentially her 2 years as a restaurant manager didn't count. Food service workers are underpaid and overworked, she gets overtime and still has to pick up shifts because people keep quitting and it's starting to affect her mood at home, she was literally crying some nights because it's just becoming overwhelming that the entire company relies on her but won't compensate her fairly for all the extra duties and stress and hours.

Which is why they're about to lose her and after she's gone idk what they're gonna do. They already opened up their lobby once the mask mandate was lifted, but then they had to shut it back down because they don't have enough employees to work the drive thru and lobby at the same time, so they're drive thru only because they can't staff enough people.

Really hoping she finds something to get her out of the industry for good

That sucks man. I have a lot of knowledge in a lot of areas, but cars aren't one of them. If you told me to point out the transmission on an engine, I couldn't. I can change my oil, change a tire, and fill my washer fluid and that's basically it, I never learned a thing about cars. Hopefully it's nothing serious.

Same. Only recently have I started googling things to see if its something I can replace with the help of youtube. Biggest accomplishment is replacing the plastic piece that pushes and pulls my wife's driver side window in her car. Piece was $20. 3 hours and lots of swearing later, it was fixed.

Last repair I made, my electric window got stuck down on the drivers side, and I tried to pull it up while holding down the button, and eventually got annoyed and hit the inside of the door like 4 times and it worked again. Pretty much a mechanic prodigy waiting to be unleashed.

I'd have done more work on my car, were it not goddamn impossible to get to everything.
Changing out the belt tensioner meant exploding the power steering a couple months later, because of course a bolt had to go through the high-pressure line to remove.

True. Once I had to replace the sensor that the brake pedal pushes to make the brake lamps light up. I was basically upside-down in the front seat with half my arm in the chest cavity of the car just to reach the sensor. Shit sucked.

In my case, the little rubber pad that pushes the sensor disintegrated. Stuck a chair-leg pad in there until I got the part - and then the pad on the clutch fell apart three months later.
Luckily, I bought two.

Didn't realize until recently you are pretty well aged, there's a bunch of us here that are. I'm gonna be 40 in October, there's a few in this topic that I know are older, i'm guessing you are closer to 60 if you were driving in 84.

I'd advise a Camry, mine refuses to die, I treat it like shit, 220k miles and I never have any problems with it ever. It still runs great. I get an oil change like every 6k miles.

My first car was a 1990 Geo Metro that I drove in 98. It was a hunk of trash. Electric blue, obnoxious color.

lmfao okay, get this...I was tearing up some newspaper to line my bird's cage, when something caught my eye. It was just a random roofing ad with the picture of the owner. But the thing is that I had to do a double take because at first I thought someone drew the mustache on his face lol

Mind you that it's news print, so the quality was worse and it was harder to see. But it instantly brought back memories of when I was a kid and would draw funny mustaches on pictures lol
