I tried skimming through Jupiter's Legacy to see if it was any good and I couldn't stop laughing at how terrible it looked. Just the budget and designs, the costumes looked straight out of Disney's Sky High (especially the Kurt Russel character)

And the acting made me laugh at the characters, it was so bad. While Amazon and other studios are making these more captivating super hero shows, Netflix comes out with this.

It reminds me of when Disney's Jungle Book came out and was surprisingly good, Netflix meanwhile released its own Jungle Book movie that was terrible and just looked plain bad.

Netflix just has this B-tier level vibe surrounding all its media.

They're losing ground now that studios want exclusive streaming rights. They can't just get the best material from all the major studios like they did back in the day.

They lost everything years ago, but it's gotten particularly bad now where every studio has its own streaming service and we're back to the old days of basic cable except so much worse.

They're still way ahead in software and hardware, it's just the product that's lagging right now...

Yeah if only because most of the other streaming services are ridiculously terrible. Netflix is not perfect but it's at least better in terms of simple performance.

Theyre banking on everybody already has Netflix, they just have to make enough content thats just good enough to make sure you always have something new to watch

when we really just want to watch reruns of our favorite shows

Woman in the Window that just released on there is pretty much Rear Window with agoraphobia instead of a broken leg but nowhere near as good.

I honestly thought it was a quasi-remake of Rear Window but turns out it's based on a novel? But it's literally almost the same plot.

Yup. Written by the same woman who did The Woman on the Train, which I also thought was pure garbage.

What did The Santa Clarita Diet copy? And the dozens upon dozens of other NF shows?

I just don't see any basis for the remark at all. And Sky High basically tried to make a generic superhero outfit parodying other costumes, so it's not like that was original. Nor does Jupiter Rising have much, if anything, in common with Sky High.

Bird Box is from a novel that came out in 2014, Quiet Place is from a novel that came out in 2015. I don't think it's fair to consider one a copy of the other considering how closely both the source materials and movies came out to each other.

I really wanted to like that one, the cast seem great but I just really have never cared for zombie stuff, even before media was oversaturated by them. izombie is the only thing I've liked and that's because of Veronica Mars showrunner + Rose Mciver.

You should have picked A series of unfortunate events as a better example, since that one was fantastic, completely blows the movie adaptation out the water especially Neil Patrick's Olaf and according to some book readers, has an even better ending than the book series itself.

But you kinda prove my point by mentioning Sky High being a generic parody, because if this jupiter show looks like a generic 2000s parody movie, that's not a good thing if it's not trying to be.

Yeah Jungle Book was a WB movie that was eventually signed to Netflix. Same thing with Woman in the Window actually.

There's probably a way to figure out which movies Netflix actually believe in with how early they got distribution rights (they got Uncut Gems while people were still being cast) but seeing how everything they sign as an exclusive is a 'Netflix Original' good luck figuring that out.

This, seems like they make a movie/show out of anything. I would pitch an idea for a live-action Outlaw Star show if I knew the right people, would be pretty cool to see. Trigun would be nice too.

Netflix shows, though I like some, are kind of inherently mediocre. It's the binge model. They're there to hold your interest for a week or two, until the next one drops. They don't need to make you tune in every week because you love a show; they just have another show instead. They always feel disposable because they are.

Some sci-fi writer once said that 80-90% of sci-fi books are crap. I think this is true for all forms of entertainment. Gathering the wheat from the chaff, the cream of the crop.

Netflix gives out more opportunities than someplace like HBO but that doesnt mean they never produce quality stuff. Look at Queens Gambit, Maniac, Marriage Story, Apostle, etc. There is plenty of good Netflix Original content despite the crap stuff.

Was that netflox produced or just a foreign show they bought the rights to? I honestly don't know how netflix works like that but I'm curious because I've watched a fair amount of non-english shows that say netflix original but I have no idea how they decode what they make available where.

That was one of my favorites though. The ending and build up to it felt a bit forced and rushed although it did all comr together and make sense in the end. 1st season was definitely best imo. I remember thinking in episode 1 "this is just Stranger Things but German?" (can't remember where it takes place) but holy fuck did it ever go in a completely different and amazing direction.

I believe it was Netflix produced. There are a number of anime (basically every good one except Devilman Crybaby) that misleadingly call themselves originals in America. I didn't know about this until a friend told me Violet Evergarden was a Netflix original. It doesn't try to claim such a thing in Japan, but sure enough, it and many other anime, do claim that in the US when they are simply exclusives to the service in the US.
