This might be true today.

When I was 18, I already had 4 years of working experience (yes, I started working at 14).

Jobs teenagers have generally arent something you can live on.

That's kinda bull. The problem is the first jobs that teens know about aren't gonna pay a decent wage. If more teens went to job fairs they could find jobs they didn't they probably would be alot better off than listening to the friend say "hey come apply here, we could work together and it would be so cool". Arkansas organ recovery unit often recruits at the ones around here and often an extremely competitive wage like minimum was 11.25 and they're were paying around 27.00 and you could get that at 18.

Heck you can get a surgical tech job of the street and get payed 24.00. if those seem low again I am saying Arkansas were the cost of living is extremely low

Yeah, I started working part time at 15 and was making around 20 an hour for a trade-esque job. But alot of it depends on where you are, how far you can travel on ofc cost of living.

But I got that job through family connection too, so not everyone will be able to get something like that.

Legal working age is 16 over here. Two years isn't much but yeah four works.

That would be the case for my country at least. I worked when I left school at 16 and that certainly wasn't enough to move out on.

My main cause of concern with this guy is ages ago he was into me and I was more vain back then (he's on the larger side) so I tried playing racist to scare him away..... It didnt work. That was even brought up over dinner last night. Man knows what he wants and is persistent. He's a black man that wants a white redneckish guy lol

I feel bad about it now he seems so good for me now that ive given him a chance.

When people know what they want, they know. Haha. Personally, I never really knew what I wanted. Me saying my current BF just kind of came out of nowhere. I actually wasnt really thinking about dating him when we first started hooking up. It just sort of happened. But its good that you have him a chance and realized that he seems good for you!

In my family the only one with his/her own place was my brother. He has a job working for Facebook and he got married, BUT, this year he had a son and decided to move back in to save money. I don't get it, to be honest, or why he would even want to, but I now feel that the whole idea of moving out is just a lie seeing as no one in my family was able to do it.

Maybe economic factors have changed at some point making moving out less realistic for more of the population. So what you get is a bunch of parents who were able to get houses and a bunch of kids not able to get one, so they end up living together.

Not as long as you're doing your part to contribute to the household and not just freeloading. I'm not ashamed to admit I live with my parents in my mid-30s because I do my part to contribute by cleaning, cooking, paying bills, and shopping. It's also a cultural thing, too, In Asian cultures, it is not uncommon for grown children to live with their parents.

I know you said generally, but yeah, I started working at 11, all under the table jobs at that point. I worked at christmas tree lots, washed dishes etc. I also got jobs at summer camps (first year teaching Archery at Camp Mendicino (through the boys club) second and on as in the kitchen (we got extra food which is why I worked there). That is how I ate as a kid. By the time I was 13 I had a job during the summer at Great American that I got through Young Life (which seriously rocked).

I graduated on my 16th birthday because I had been working construction for over a year and back in the late 80's, getting paid $15 an hour (did the same work as the adults, got paid the same amount). I saw no reason to waste time in school when I could make that much money, so I rushed 4 years in 1, by working as a janitor as Kings Academy (private school) that let me go at my own pace.

So yeah, in general kids don't have real jobs, but at least in the past you COULD get real jobs if you worked hard enough.

I moved out when I was 19. Ran out of money/credit within a year, and moved back in with the parents for 10 months to recoup, and moved back out. I moved back in with them for something around 8 months when I was 26 when my mom had breast cancer. They've helped me out for the first time recently with some money while I've been away at school. I'm very thankful for that, but living with my family is difficult for me. I am envious of people that have great relationships with their folks. I can deal with them, but I'd prefer not to.
