They specifically said Treasures is NOT Monsters and that they are still making another Monsters (which was previously announced and was shown to feature Young Erik. I'm guessing it won't use Erik anymore)

part of me thinks that all the stuff about it being "for adults" and the battle system "being changed" is once again smoke and mirrors. they said that about XI too, and look how that turned out.
but another part of me thinks that maybe they should actually evolve the series, given how old the big 3 are. now's maybe the perfect chance for a game that transitions into a new creative team/direction, so that we get a sense of how the series will continue beyond yuji horii. --- while you slept, the world changed ... I'm hyped for that DQXII as long as it's not a mobile game or MMO. I feel like a "dark, adult" theme game is just bait at the moment. It's just feels wrong.
