First this does not mean to go out and call big people names. Don't do that to anyone you jerk. But acting like fat is good or ok is deadly. I personally fell for it. I use to be strong, fit, use to wear tight ass shirts to show off. depression hit me , and loneliness hit me, and more. And I stop working out an started eating more. And I gained a lot of weight. While I was gaining I was buying into this this idea about being healthy at any size.

Oh I am 250 pounds. But I can still do an aerial I can still run a marathon.
Oh I am 270 pounds. But that is okay. I can still lift a mountain.

However in the background my BP was going out of control. My heart was getting irked up and more.

And how many people are like me out there . That fall for this mess, and don't know what is going on in the background. This is why I hate Lizzo and Tess holiday so much. They are killing people. Sorry for my rant. but fucking Tess Holiday just said she was anorexia and it just has me pissed.

Sorry for the rant, but this honestly is killing people. And I see people all the time online that don't get what they are doing to themselves. And it is sad because I know the road that many of them will face.

yeah we need to be careful. i'm a big fan of positivity in general, but sometimes we do need to tell people the truth if we love them. so they're not hurting themselves and limiting their enjoyment on earth by being unhealthy. :/

otherwise we're fucked as a species if we can't do that.

I don't know, we keep telling people to mind their business and say "I don't care what another adult does. It doesn't effect my life in any way", unless it's obese people because fuck em.

I mean it's like cigarettes or alcohol or whatever. People do unhealthy things because they enjoy it. It's really not your business. I think it only becomes a problem if you start promoting that it isn't unhealthy. That would be just as wrong as trying to claim cigarettes aren't bad for you.

Yep. I similarly ran afoul of HAES after regaining the weight from my first big weight loss. I was desperate and vulnerable and HAES seemed like a good alternative to trying and failing diets over and over. Went great for a short while. I didn't care about dieting, was being active and having fun just moving for the sake of movement. Was the happiest I'd ever been in my fat body with noticeable improvements in confidence and self-esteem. Then I started having BAD breathing problems that ruined all aspects of my life. It tanked all my mental health gains and brought me to one of my lowest mental places ever after I binge ate (my primary coping mechanism since childhood and why I got so fat in the first place) my way to my highest weight ever of at least 365lbs at 5'10".

I was miserable 24/7 and legitimately terrified of dying in my sleep. And that breathing problem may not necessarily have been caused by being so fat (I actually still haven't identified what it was) but it was definitely made worse by being fat, eased up with even modest weight loss, and has since resolved entirely after losing about 150lbs.

I love the idea of body positivity and finding peace within and for ourselves. I abhor bullying and fat-shaming, having experienced that due to being some level of morbidly obese since elementary school. I understand the desire to be accepted and seen positively when there really is so much hatred for and mistreatment of fat people, including outright discrimination and dehumanization. Anyone trying to do that under the pretense of health can especially fuck off. It's awful and I am all for the idea of tackling that. It just can't be done the way the FA/HAES crowd is trying to do it.

You cannot sacrifice physical health for the sake of mental health because both of them will end up suffering, just the same as if we focus entirely on physical health. There has to be a balance and the FA/HAES crowd has increasingly adopted the anti-science approach of there being nothing wrong with obesity. They actually push that the health repercussions of obesity are directly and solely caused by weight stigma that manifests itself as medical discrimination against fat people, media influence creating unattainable body images, a predatory dietary industry that preys on fat people, and everything but obesity. All of those things are definitely valid issues that need to be resolved but their solution is not to tackle those on the grounds that need addressing in rational ways. Instead, they seek to normalize obesity, all levels of it, all aspects of it, all consequences of it. That shit can fuck right off.

I don't hate Lizzo or Tess Holiday, or most any other fat activist who peddles this bullshit (there are some very nefarious people in that movement though who can fuck off). Many of them are clearly struggling with mental and physical health issues that I relate to on some level and as someone who encountered the same pitfalls and handled them in similarly bad (and worse) ways, I can't judge them. I do, however, hate that they have a platform and are influencing people because they are not much different from anti-vaxxers. There are going to be more desperate and vulnerable brought to obesity-related illness and death because of the message they spread.

It's worse when popular retail stores like Target promote fat positivity by using fat mannequins in their store because they "want to appear diverse". It's not diverse to promote obesity and make it seem like it's okay to be fat. If you have to special order your clothes online because you're so fat, society is not the problem. You are.

Nobody is promoting smoking or drinking. There's nothing regarding smoking that's equivalent to the body positivity movement. As a matter of fact, the attitude to call for a ban on cigarettes is far more prominent than the attitude to ban unhealthy dietary habits.

Fat positivity/Healthy at any size only applies to women though. You don't see fat men get called beautiful and such. If we say we take pride in our bodies we get laughed at, deservedly.

You're right though. I've been fat all my life and never saw it as a positive. I'm trying again to work out and lose some weight. I just hope I can stick with it this time.
