Current Events > Which Resident Evil games are worth playing and which ones should I skip?

I own 0 through 5, Revelations 1, and 7 and 8 on PC.

Of these I've only played 7 and 8 which I really enjoyed, plus a little bit of 1 which felt really dated because of the fixed camera and shit but I might give it another go soon. I don't remember hearing many good things about 5, 6, or the Revelations games so I'm not sure if I should bother with playing those/buying 6 or Revelations 2.

Umbrella Corps, Survivor, and RE6.

don't worry about the rest.

All the main re games (including code veronica and rev 1 and 2) are worth playing imo

Just play the remakes of the older ones if you want and skip the old games

Revelations 1 and 2 are some of the best in the series.

5 and 6 are much much better when you have someone to co-op with.

0 and the remake of 1 are pretty good, but compared to modern games the controls are a bit antiquated.

7 and 8 are a moe slow paced "horror" experience. Pretty good IMO.

Remake of 2 and 3 are also very very good. The classic stories of the OG games with much needed updates to gameplay.

Most of the numbered titles are worth playing except for 6 and maybe 5 unless you can do co-op. The Revelations titles and Code Veronica are good as well.

I personally enjoyed 6 but a lot of people didn't, so I'm not including that.

I think for the Revelations titles it's moreso that people just don't talk about them compared to the main numbered titles. I haven't personally seen too many people dislike them (though I have seen complaints about lack of enemy variety in Rev1).

Same here. I always really liked those games, but I never really see people talking about them. Revelations 1 and 2, the original RE2, and RE4 are my favorites. I havent played RE5 or anything past it. I really like the original game and Code Veronica, too. The only one Ive played that I flat out disliked was RE3.

The Switch needs Code Veronica because I dont have a working system that can play it now.

the only one id say you can flat out skip is 6. im one of the few who actually liked it, but its still kind of a mess of a game and you time can be better spent on the others. I also have some pretty big issues with Rev1, but its still decent.

in general the holy trinity of the series tends to be REmake 1, RE2/REmake 2 and 4. 5 is also great if you have a coop partner.

I would say 5 and 6.

those are the only two that i can outright say skip in the main series.

I'm replaying Code Veronica X.

The devs went out of their way to make the game troll you. I would only recommend if you like old school fixed angle, tank control RE games.

What do yall think about RE3? I really never could get into it. Not sure if this was a glitch, but there was a part right in the start of the game where you had to simply go from one screen to another. The second that I got to the other screen, Nemesis was literally on top of me and killed me. I would load and retry, but this happened every time. Thats when I said, if this is going to happen every twenty minutes, then Im done.

Play Outbreak.

Honestly, the Resident Evil series is one of the more consistent series out there, especially if things that play as well as 5 or 6 are considered the low points in the series.

I'd recommend playing all of the main series games at some point, but 1 and 2 are absolute musts for introducing the characters that become staples in later games. REmake is infinitely better than the original Resident Evil, so I would prioritize it. The original Resident Evil 2 is often regarded as the best game in the old style of pre-RE4 games and has aged significantly better than the original Resident Evil, so it's worth considering if you're trying to choose between it and its remake.

I agree with this. Outbreak and File 2 are definitely worth playing and add a new twist with the character abilities.

Though the load times on a PS2 are absolutely brutal.

3 is really good with a lot of unique features. the remake butchers most of them, cuts content and adds shitty "modern" stuff that shouldnt be in it. decent game still, but holy shit at the difference between 2 remake and 3 in regards to their originals.

Revelations 2 is really fun coop as well.

It's honestly my least favorite RE game including the spin-offs. Other than Nemesis (although part of that has to do with how he was the only boss in the game with the sole exception of a giant worm) the whole thing was just so bland. Couldn't even remember any character name but Jill. The level design and puzzles were also forgettable. Lore-wise, the Veronica virus is also way more important and plays a big part in the creation of future viruses than the Nemesis virus

All of the main games are worth playing. 6 is the only legitimately bad one but, if you get that deep into the series, you might as well play it.

CV is ruined by obscure puzzles, poor resources and stale environments. Steve is there to move Claire's story forward. The story is super convoluted in this game but what RE game does have a good story?

Yes. There was nothing enjoyable about that game. I played it for the story and after I was finished I wished I had just read a synopsis somewhere because the only thing worse than playing it would have been watching someone play it

I agree with this. It's even worse than Code Veronica.

Though, to be fair, it is a very good looking game. Too bad the co-op is frustrating and ruins any hope of it being enjoyable.

I love classic RE but it's not worth it and it's very existence contradicts the first game story-wise.
