I'd trust the local authorities no further than I can toss a 747. Everyone knows about the South. The small town Midwest and Northeast have been given a free pass too long. I've been all over the world ~~4 continents, 33 countries~~ The racism in a lot of places is primitive (Asia in particular) but it is quite acute and sophisticated in the Northeast and Midwest. There is a Chinese proverb from the 36 stratagems "hide a dagger with a smile".
