I feel more in control than I did 3 years ago, but I hate talking to dealerships. I don't want to talk to you and when I do I'll just piss you off.

Why is it so hard to just show me a sign and drive deal on your website or listing sites? I don't want to do a fucking down payment or discover that taxes and fees weren't rolled in.

How easy is too easy? If I walk in the dealership with a TrueCar certificate is that still too easy? Because I have that in my pocket if I can't negotiate lower.

Buy luxury. Those dudes make enough on the cars themselves so they dont have to fuck around and overcharge you for nonsense.

A nice A3 or A4. Dont bother with the big commuter brands or mom and pop locations.

I get D-plan and I still have to put up a fight. They got you somewhere dude sorry. I know a dealership that works with me well, but the others will not at all.

The last time I bought a car, I decided on the model I wanted and just called up 3 dealers in the area and told them to give me their best price, and I bought from the lowest price.

I made sure to call the dealers I didn't buy from to let them know, and of course they were like "well what'd you pay? I can probably get you a better deal!" Sorry brah. You blew that sale. Could I have haggle and gotten a better deal than what I paid for? Yeah. But it was satisfying telling those other dealers they lost a sale bc they were trying to jerk me around on price.

When I bought my car I spent a lot of time researching the car I wanted on my own. I got the black book price and I lurked the car salesman subreddit to help prepare me. When I negotiated the price I asked if it was "all in" meaning no additional fees. If they added any I walked away.

You have to be smart with your dealerships. TBH, avoid the ones in the wealthy areas because they are either used to cash buyers or buyers with so much money that they don't care about being ripped off. You walk in trying to haggle a car they will laugh in your face lol.

I'd rather not trade in my CR-V lease unless the chip shortage will be a lot worse in August and the dealership eats the remaining payments entirely. Some dealerships are refusing to haggle or apply incentives and insisting on MSRP due to inventory shortages. It's 99% bs, but they try.

Excellent credit. Mainly looking at 2022 Tucson, 2021 Rogue, and 2021 Forester. Test drove a rental 2020 CX-5 GT on a recent vacation and was extremely disappointed with the tech inside when I got past its good looks. My options are limited because I want the latest driver assistance tech.

At the end of the day, I don't want to pay anything out the door that I'm not legally required to (i.e. NY DMV, first month, etc).

Dealerships would rather close then give someone a good deal. Don't ride on the chip shortage lol.
Here's what you can do. I want you to know exactly what you want to the exact hair(color, edition, features, everything)! Go on cars.com and find at least 4 dealerships that have the vehicle you are looking for. TBH having a trade is going to make it harder because not only do you have to negotiate the price of the car but now you have to negotiate your trade lol.

Thanks. Rodo and TrueCar seem to do a good job at calculating payments that include trade-ins. If I don't buy through the site, I can always just screenshot the numbers and dare a dealership to match.

Dealerships still have their place. I like test drives and I like walking around lots. What you see on the website or in a brochure isn't always what it looks like in reality.

The people can just fuck off though.
