Well, not fact, but more very concrete prediction. From what rumors have said, metroid prime 4 had just started development right as the pandemic hit. BOTW2 is likely going to be an end of switch lifespan/switch 2 launch title like botw and twilight princess. The switch itself is already starting to be held back by hardware limitations that become more evident with each new game, and Nintendo has been rumored to be hard at work on the successor to the switch.

Also, why the fuck do they keep porting everything under the sun to switch but not xenoblade chronicles X from Wii u. I never owned a Wii u and I really wanted to play it but fuck buying one now just to play it, they're going for exorbitant prices online now lol.

Switch definitely seems like it's nearing the end of its lifespan, which isn't really a bad or dire thing. Switch 2 is needed, big time. More processing power will greatly benefit them, especially with BOTW2 and MP4. Plus, they don't really have too much on the way in terms of first party exclusives outside of BOTW2 which has no real release date of yet. There's a few still for sure, but this year is looking pretty barren for the most part first party wise.

BotW2 being cross generational wouldn't even be notable tbh. Back when Twilight Princess came out, it being cross generational was novel, but these days it's relatively standard.

Metroid Prime 4 skipping the Switch would be a massive deal, I seriously doubt it would happen.

And yeah, Xenoblade Chronicles X got done dirty. It needs appreciation on a console with an actual player base.

Just temper your expectations of the story, and you'll have a blast, if you ever get a chance to play it.

The next Nintendo console is probably just going to be the Switch 2 anyway, so it probably won't matter too much as long as they learn from the Wii U situation and make its purpose actually clear.

With the way mobile tech has advanced, we can reasonably expect PS4 level graphics from a handheld in 2023, and at that point the diminishing returns in graphical performance will make for an interesting situation with the PS5 and Xbox series X.

Smartphones are already capable of impressive video games, they just aren't made because there's no reason to.

There's a few others. Pascals Wager is a surprisingly awesome soulslike and functipns well with touch controls, along with a story and cool environments, it looks great. I actually liked the game.

There's a Switch Pro model coming later this year if that's the successor you're talking about. But I think a proper Switch 2 is still a while away although it's entirely possible the Switch Pro is more like the Game Boy Color than just an enhanced thing. I guess we will see.

Switch pro could in fact be the switch 2 in a sense. Kind of like the upgraded 3ds with the nub and more power.

Nintendo also said they're planning to support the Switch for about a decade. With Splatoon 3 coming out next year (and we know how Splatoon games have post-launch support for like a couple years) that might be true.

So BotW2 being cross-gen? Not too sure about that. Prime 4 might, though.

not for at least like 2 to 3 more years.

Splatoon 3 will be supported for a while just like the first two games, and it's not coming out until next year.

Nintendo has said they are not close to wrapping up switch life span

Playing games on the TV feels ancient to me. Between the Switch, Moonlight and PS4/PS5 Remote Play, I've been all handheld the past 2 or so years. The latter two spoiling the Switch since it's on an AMOLED phone or tablet screen.

Seems to be the case. They admited they needed to start over on MP4 again after like a year or so, so I don't expect it any time soon at this rate. Fans will be lucky to see it near or at the end of the Switch's console life. As for BotW2, if it's release isn't used to sell the new, enhanced Switch revision supposedly going to be revealed soon Nintendo will likely save it to push sales of their next generation console like they did with the original.
