It's a 2012 Cruz and he said that model was built in a way that you had to remove the whole rear portion of the chasis to get inside and replace the bulbs.

I was skeptical so I looked at it myself and there's literally 2 screws you undo to pop the bulb cover off for easy replacing. Was the mechanic a moron or trying to scam me?

unsurprisingly, many mechanics are scam artists. had one try to charge me $100 to replace the cabin air filter, looked it up myself and saw it just involved taking off the glove box...

This is why Ive had the same mechanics most of my life. Ive been loyal to the same three mechanics for 20 years now and theyve never burned me. Yet when I strayed to others I almost got taken advantage of.

Ill never forget my wife brining her Jetta to a mechanic and they told her she had a blown head gasket. Was gonna cost $1800+. Took her to my guy and it was her water pump, $240.

There is a surprisingly amount of car work you can kinda do on your own nowadays if you just google your way to it. I know not a god damn thing about cars but i've replaced specifically license plate lights, headlights, car door handles, etc. Real stuff obv still goes to the mechanic, but you can do quite a lot on your own.

Yeah, I know very little about cars. Replacing easy stuff like bulbs and fuses I can do. But when there's real mechanical problems, I'm very thankful that I know some trustworthy people who are car experts. Even if they can't fix it themselves they at least know someone else that's trustworthy that can, and lets me know which shops are scammers

I miss my mechanic from my college town. it was owned by a guy who had a son and I played bball with him so he (the son, who also worked there) hooked me up with discounts on their already dort cheap rates.

You could skip those repairs. But I wouldnt recommend it.

It would only lead to more costly repairs later on.

To change the running and reverse lights in my KIA is a extra task from the old stuff I changed lights in.

Did water pump, starter, tensioner, brakes, calipers, and almost a fuel pump but the ole Explorer was just too old to keep hanging on.

Also fixed my position sensor but it was something that had me baffled for a long time until I Googled "brake lights won't come on".
