Really cool to visually see just how tall the Rockies are even compared to the Appalachians

I live in the Appalachians basically. Small town in them. And I'm a block from the Appalachian Trail. It's a really really pretty area, but I want to see the Rockies in person and see some real mountains.

Edit: And forever ago the Appalachians were as big as the Rockies. It's crazy to think about.

Yeah I wanna see that. Like I said, this area is really pretty but it's more like "taller rolling hills" as opposed to mountains. These are within a couple miles of my house but it's part of/close to the AT in PA.

Edit: I live in the town seen in the first picture. It's a shithole of redneck poverty.

Wow that's actually really beautiful, I've never been to appalachia. I guess I assumed it was just boring generic scenery

PA has some of the smallest mountains in the range. I think the highest peak in PA is a mere 3,200 feet? Try coming down to WV if you can, we have peaks of 4,850 ft. Small compared to rockies but if you can get a view of base to summit 1,800 - 4,850 ft it looks huge. Much bigger than a hill.

North Carolina has the highest peak on the east coast at almost 6,700 feet if you want to go a lot bigger. Only part of the southeast that can see snow in July.

I never really appreciated just how far into the NE the Appalachians extend. I always thought it sorta ended around Pennsylvania.

All of the mountains east of The Missippi are a part of the Appalachian Mountain Range, with one except, The Adirondack Mountains.
They are their own thing and I believe the only circular mountain range in North America.

I would kill to live near some of the scenic views posted ITT. I'm a sucker for beautiful landscapes.

Instead, I'm stuck in the boring inner city.

Erosion mostly.
In the meantime, three or four tectonic plates got shoved under the western half of north america, and caused a bit of a mess up top.
