My Dr recommended that I get one now, at 40, as opposed to the usual 50 since I have a family history of colon cancer. I was extremely nervous never having undergone this before, and not gonna lie, the last 2 days have not been fun. Yesterday I couldn't eat solid foods and had to drink a disgusting concoction that cleaned out my bowels and caused me to be on the toilet for most of the evening. Then this morning I had to get driven to a medical facility where a doctor basically shoved a miniature camera up my ass.

But you know what, it was worth it. As my gastroenterologist told me, colorectal cancer is eminently preventable with regular screenings if it's caught early. So if you need to a 'scopy and are afraid/nervous trust me once it's over you'll be glad. Think of what happened to poor Chadwick Boseman. Getting a colonoscopy could very well save your life.

Once the doctor got the camera to the required depth how hard was it to hide your erection?

Had one. The prep the night before is definitely the worst part of the whole experience. Compared to gushing out half your body weight in a Niagara of discolored liquid, having a cable inserted into you is nothing.

I've had at least a dozen colonoscopies and half a dozen upper endoscopies over the last 19 years. The clean-out is the worst part. Once they give you the propofol all is right with the world. Hell I've even woke up during a few of them and they just gave you more propofol and back out you go. It's not as big of a deal as people make it out to be.

I was out oof it so didn't really feel as it was happening, but afterwards the whole day (i.e. now) it feels like I've been fucked in the ass.

No real need for sedation though, unless the thought of the procedure stresses you out. If you're awake, they feed you a painkiller intravenously. That helps the camera get around the tight turns without causing too much discomfort.

It is. It's usually a drug called propofol unless you are allergic to it. Coincidentally it's the same drug the doctor od'd Michael Jackson on, but he gave him a huge dose of it.

I drove my roommate and my spouse to their colonoscopies. My spouse went in and came back out like nothing happened and probably could have driven himself home. My roommate on the other hand, you'd have thought he was three sheets to the wind on the way back. He kept telling me the same story over and over, not realizing he'd already told it like three times, slurring his speech and just generally acting goofy.

I remember my great-uncle joking that during his colonoscopy, they were 'zapping polyps like in a video game'.

Anyhow, hell yeah. It's good to be an advocate, one of my personal musical heroes died of colon cancer (Frank Zappa).

Yeah for sure, a lot of people don't get it because they are scared. Hell, I was scared and put it off for a while but it's worth doing and catching anything early enough.

My brother-in-law is a CRNA and was the one that knocked my mom out for hers. The last thing she heard before he pushed the concoction was him saying, "Don't lube the scope for this one."

Still makes me laugh.
