Do you think there will be hell to pay of Chauvin gets a retrial and his previous verdicts are revoked?

One of the jurors who spoke out after the Derek Chauvin Verdict and revealed that one juror was CLOSE to voting not guilty after some convincing was revealed to have attended a BLACK LIVES MATTER march with conservatives now demanding a RETRIAL for the former officer now convicted killer!!

The speculation about his motives for serving on the jury and whether it would be grounds for appeal where a photo of Brandon Mitchell attending an August 28th event to commemorate MLK JR's "I have a dream" speech during the 1963 March on Washington.

The photo recently surfaced online as it shows him standing with 2 cousins with a picture of King and the words "GET YOUR KNEE OFF OUR NECKS" and "BLM"

The 31 y/o acknowledged being at the event and his uncle posting the photo but doesn't recall wearing or owning the shirt.

He was one of the 12 jurors who convicted Chauvin and is the first to go public

He said "I'd never been to DC. The opportunity to go to DC, the opportunity to be around thousands and thousands of black people, i just thought it was a good opportunity to be a part of something."

The AP has not received messages back from Mitchell and Chauvin's attorney if they plan to appeal after this relevation

Mike Brandt, a Minneapolis Defense Attorney said the revelation alone wasn't nearly enough to overturn the conviction but could be combined with other issues with the massive settlement with Floyd's family during jury selection and the shooting of Daunte Wright, the judge's refusal to move the trial could be an appeal to say Chauvin was denied a fair trial

But Ted Sampsell-Jones, a professor at Mitchell Hamline School of Law however said this could be what Chauvin needs to get what he needs to ask for a retrial and said this wasn't the fault of the judge or prosecutors but a function of publiclity and public pressure

Mitchell said "No" to 2 questions that asked "Did you, or someone close to you participate in any of the demonstrations or marches against police brutality that took place in Minneaplois after George Floyd's death? and Other than what you have already described above, have you or anyone close to you participated in protests about police use of force or police brutality?"

Mitchell said during jury selection he had a very favourable opinon of BLM and knew some police officers at his gym who are "great guys" but felt neutral to blue lives matter, a pro police group.

He said he could be neutral on trial and said lst summer's protest was 100% not a march for floyd but a march for MLK's March.

Do you think there will be hell to pay if Chauvin verdicts get revoked and there's a retrial?

Are these conservatives under the impression that they're going to find 12 jurors who don't have beliefs one way or another on whether Black lives matter?

I have a sneaking suspicion that their concern only goes one way on the matter.

everybody's got an opinion, but jurors are mostly supposed to use the evidence and other tools to aid in their critical thinking.

many Conservatives just want jurors who need to find alternative meanings to what is otherwise self-explanitory. the kind of people who believe statements like "I thought it was a tazer."

This is one of the many reasons why you don't reveal the identities of the jurors.

They're all in danger and going to be stalked.

People will be hunting left right and center for an excuse to undo the verdict

Eh.

Generally you're supposed to disclose these things

Imagine a juror was found to be a white supremacist and someone said "Well fair's fair, some of the community are white supremacists!"

Imagine a rape trial where the jury had MRAs who just said "Well some of the community are MRAs!"

It's supposed to be your peers but as fair and unbiased as humanly possible.

If you're an activist with strong political/social stances. Then there are probably better jurors to pick.

He probably didn't know, didn't care, didn't think the judge would go for it, thought the alternatives were worse or ran out of challenges.

This is dishonest and hyperliteral

Everyone has biases and is colored by their own experiences but to pretend Sarah from the post office who likes Becker and the vice president of the Proudboys are equally impartial is just silly.

The words of the English language are clumsy but there is a clear distinction between "a random guy" and someone who may have an agenda

And this juror here is some random guy. Are there even 12 competent adults in America who don't have an opinion on police killings and racism? That doesn't make someone unfit to be a juror.

This is like saying no one who has supported gay pride can be a juror in a case involving a gay person.
