The CW is continuing its renewal with its freshman shows as the female led reboot of Kung Fu has finally gotten the greenlight for a Season 2 after 4 episodes as the smash hit was a success for the network and for asian representation!!

It stars Olivia Liang, who had NO KUNG FU EXPERIENCE in the title role of Nicky who trains in China before going back to her hometown after the death of her shaolin mentor and vows to avenge her death.

Olivia says she trained for 3 months how to learn kung fu despite not having any experience and her fast learning has been phenominal according to execs

The pilot premiered to an impressive 0.22 in the coveted 18-49 demo with 1.22 million viewers and was the highest rated series in the Wednesday timeslot in 3 years and has done much better than Riverdale in its slot.

Even more impressively the viewership has been steady and hasn't dropped as much with a 0.19 after 4 weeks and still maintaining over a million viewers.

With the lack of asian representation of scripted tv and the stop the asian hate movement growing, Kung Fu came at a critical time when viewers are looking for an asian led show after the cancellation of Fresh off the Boat last year.

Why does it matter if she actually knows kung fu? Fight scenes are generally choreographed so you don't need to use it against an opponent that's actually trying to beat you

The station doesn't seem to cancel anything all that often. Had the Cape been on CW instead of NBC, it would have got 7 seasons and a movie.

Otherwise apparently CW is better than witness protection, considering they can have a "smash hit" and most people don't know it exists. (Granted, it's not as hilarious... who the fuck was it who tried to claim Suits was a big deal? They had me cracking up. How much fucking kool-aid do you have to drink to believe something like that? Had Suits been on any network except USA, it probably wouldn't have lasted more than a season.)
