I disagree, but I will admit they are/should be their own unique category

I understand the appeal of trying to break the system in completely ridiculous ways, but it pretty quickly goes from "wow, they're so much better at playing the game than me" to "I have no interest in ever even trying to play the game like this." Where exactly the line should be drawn is up for debate, obviously, but ultimately, glitch runs are such a completely different experience from playing the game "properly" that they're often hard for viewers to identify with.

I mean, I don't have an interest in running speedruns, but learning how a glitch works is always interesting to me.

I don't mind glitch runs. Some glitches can take a while to set up or pull off and nailing them can be a skill in itself.

This? This sounds just dumb.
You're literally modifying the physical cart. While neat, I don't know if I would ever allow it as a speed run category.

My viewpoint has always been, if you have to radically glitch to get a speedrun, the speed of your run is pretty much meaningless and worthless. It's one thing if you use tricks to push into otherwise inaccessible areas or trigger in-game flags by unconventional means (like pushing through a gate in Suikoden II, or deliberately clipping yourself through locked doors and the like), but if all you're really doing is glitching directly to the credits you didn't actually beat the game, and that isn't actually impressive in any way.

Stuff like tool-assisted runs or actively modifying hardware is one step beyond even that, where you've accomplished nothing of any real value whatsoever.

It's partly why I have no real interest in speedrunning games - too much of it these days is just BS in general.

It's interesting, but from my perspective, it's interesting in a manner that goes outside of the boundaries of being interested in a game. Talking about parallel universes isn't interesting because I like SM64, it's interesting in its own, completely separate way.

Basically:
Vanilla speedruns - "I like this game and want to get really good at it"
Glitch speedruns - "I like breaking games and look for opportunities to do that in interesting ways, regardless of what the game is"

Neither is particularly more valid than the other, but from a spectator's perspective, it's quite understandable that some people would really only care for one of those two categories.

Man imagine having the WR run on a game and then a glitch is discovered that lets you finish the game in less than 10 seconds.
