That episode came to mind when you saw this topic. If pokemon comes up I think of either the Charmander episode, the butterfree getting released, or that one where they went to that school of book smarts trainers.

I can't remember much of the anime even though I watched it up to BW era so thats hundreds of episodes. Most of them are very similar and forgettable unless it's a special or something. The scant few episodes that stand out to me are the ones where they made Jesse and James actually competent and they wore black outfits like real TR members. Those episodes had better animation too. Some were never aired because of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan. Eventually Team Rocket went back to joke status and their original outfits. I guess fans missed that being a staple.

I still don't get why they didn't just cut or edit that scene, even though they had no problem with turning a rice ball into a sandwich and shit

I think of some random episode with a Dragonite briefly featured because my friend had that (and some other episodes) on VHS and it was the first one I ever saw. Looking it up, it was "Mystery at the Lighthouse." Close seconds I think of are releasing the Butterfree, the moment Krabby evolves during the Championship, and Charizard's return.

Mystery at the lighthouse is definitely the one that I think of too. It was the first episode where I was like Pokmon so mysterious..
