for me, the pro was that I could move to a different city without a job lined up.
long list of cons though, basically being alone inside my apartment all day doesn't seem to be working from a mental health perspective. overall I much prefer commuting to an office.

also, a lot of people think it will be more permanent and widespread. perhaps it's possible but my company is still talking about When We Return To The Office. I can't help but think the trend of moving 2hrs out away from town for more "home office space" due to the current situation is a little short-sighted.

thoughts and onions?

I've been doing it for ten years so I imagine it will continue.

I can't imagine going back to an office at this point.

Yes and no.

I've been looking at finding a new position and during covid there were a lot more wholly remote positions that weren't even being advertised as temporary. But now that things are starting to get back to normal, I'm finding a lot more in-office positions.

I suspect there's a bit of a pendulum effect here in that organizations were forced to go to remote, and now that they (kinda) have the option to go back in-office, they're kinda going hard on the back in-office positions. I think it'll eventually normalize to more of a hybrid situation.

The couple of offers I've had recently have been hybrid. Part time in, part time out.

I like going into the office sometimes, and sometimes wfh. I miss people and it was a bit easier to do some things in person. I liked having walking as part of my commute. I liked office perks (free lunch & dinner, boba days). I liked home being more separate from work space.

wfh is nice too though, easier to focus and I can be more flexible with hours. But just at home all the time working, sleeping, working, sleeping is depressing and I work longer hours without a separation of space.

We're going to have MWF be flex days where you can go into the office or not (and my manager is flexible in general so Tuesday/Thursday aren't set in stone) and that works perfectly for me. I'll probably go in Friday some days too for events and going out and about afterward anyway.

That's perfect imo, 2-3 days wfh.

(we're also supporting fully remote for people who want that which is something like 1/4 in our surveys)

It's been a massive boon for us that's allowed us to be able to attend meetings in multiple cities with relative ease at a higher volume then before. I know they want us in person but we VERY much prefer working from home!

Yes and yes but I wish I could go in like one day every couple weeks or so. As people have said, spending that much time at home is not great
