im talking about the western world as a whole, not specifically the us

and yes, believe it or not, the richest superpower in the nation should provide aid to other countries in a worldwide catastrophe

this isnt even about the us or any country in particular - it is detrimental to the entire planet, including the US to not try to get the globe as vaccinated as possible. pretending that the us or any other first world nation is incapable of both vaccinating themselves and assisting other countries is lunacy

im not saying that we should donate our vaccines to other countries instead of vaccinating our own population. im saying that withholding patents, sitting on AstraZeneca vaccines with no intention of using them, etc is cruelty for crueltys sake and - more than that - its actively bad for the countries doing it themselves

No one has said otherwise. The plan has always been to distribute vaccines globally as they become available. We aren't sitting on anything, people just need to realize we're still vaccinating 3 million people per day in the US and have made promises to many different countries.

Just because there is a line does not mean people aren't getting the vaccine.

I agree that the US is doing a great job of vaccinating.

But I think these first world nations need to take a more active interest in assisting other countries. Not by just donating vaccines - the problem is that so many other countries dont have the infrastructure to produce and distribute vaccines effectively themselves. This is a time where in an ideal world the US, China, EU, etc would ignore profit for a second and assist in this issue. I dont buy that these superpowers cant both vaccinate themselves domestically and also work on assisting other countries in a more thorough way. And if they continue to not do so - even ignoring the humanitarian reasons they should - theyre begging for more and more mutations until the vaccines theyve done so well with distributing are useless.

Also you don't have to believe in scarcity but it still exist either way. Vaccines will be distributed as they become available.

It took the US up until today to give 60 million AstraZeneca vaccines - that they have had for months and have had no real plan of using - to other nations. That, to me, is a problem.

Nations could be assisting others in developing infrastructure to distribute and produce vaccines once they are more readily available. That is not happening on a wide level either. Its an issue that could have been tackled a year ago and still it hardly is being addressed at all.

As for profit, Im referring to the fact that patents even exist on these vaccines, and that nations are actually denying other countries (such as India) use of the patents for free.

There is no such thing as a vaccine not intended to be used. As more and more people get it and shortages disappear, more will be distributed globally.

Maybe instead of incessantly hating on countries that are doing the right thing we should shift the narrative and ask why other countries are dependent on us.
