It's a perfect end to many character arcs and storylines but it's also a perfect "phase" end which has since been really interesting to see after the events of infinity war and endgame mean in this universe. Spiderman Far From Home and the Disney Plus shows especially have been fucking awesome how they're handling a world post Snap. You don't spend 10 years, 22 movies and introducing like 40-50 main characters. Close a few loops and endgame and not expect that people want to see more from the remaining characters. --- Like 90% of CE topics are the same way lol. The one thing I do agree with, is you can ABSOLUTELY turn your brain off and enjoy them, watch some cool action, see some interesting things, laugh at a few jokes and go about your day. But as you sit here trying to dismiss the entirety of the MCU, no franchise, in the history of franchises, has done what the MCU has done with canonical storytelling told across completely different movie franchises and TV shows. Saying "No semblance of serious plot development" is flat out wrong in every conceivable way. It's about the dumbest thing you could have said and tells me you haven't been remotely paying attention in the last 13 years actually. The MCU retrained an ENTIRE generation of movie goers to completely rewrite what they knew and understood about movies. They got people to understand that entirely different movies, with a brand new cast of characters, set in the same universe, are interconnected and building to something more. They rewrote the language of how "sequels" and "prequels" worked. AND they got people to keep their asses in chairs until the last fucking name scrolled up through the credits so they could see 10 seconds of what's to come. You don't turn your brain off for movies and storylines that are this interconnected and complex and continue to return to the franchise with anticipation as MCU fans do time and time again. Without completely missing huge chunks of details. The details is the next major tentpole in what makes the MCU special. Because of the talent involved, and the complete trust we have in Marvel to steer this ship in the right direction. There is so much setup and pay off in completely overt ways, but in so many more subtle and character driven moments throughout the entire run. People have made hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of videos and articles breaking these properties down. And while it's filled to the brim with "easter egg" level details. It's also so amazingly consistent with it's character arcs that new media ONLY makes you see the older stuff with more context and appreciation. Nothing about this is "safe" Not remotely. They literally built this franchise to a level that's completely unprecedented on the back of a guy (RDJ) who most studios wouldn't have touched with a 10 foot pole based on the point of his life he was at. The guy was just pulling himself up back up by the bootstraps after a serious problem with drugs and alcohol. And Marvel bet everything on him that he would be the glue of this franchise. Nothing about the MCU works because it's "Safe" it's because of the immense talent and respect that's immediately apparent to anyone REMOTELY paying attention. What you see as "Safe" we see as "They make this shit look easy" We know it's not fucking easy. However Wright had wanted to do other things at the time, so they built the franchise with what they had instead, and shelved Ant Man until 2015ish. Then, when production actually started. It became quickly apparent that Wright wouldn't play ball AT ALL. He didn't want ANY "studio meddling" in his movie, which doesn't fucking work if you need a couple pieces from a studio perspective. I'm not gonna sit here and tell you who's Wright or Wrong here between Marvel and him. I do wish we got his complete version. But look the fuckin credits https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0478970/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast He has Story and Screenplay credits for the movie we got. It's by large influenced by him. AND if you watch the fuckin thing, what exactly did Marvel ask Peyton Reed to include to connect back to the MCU?
