Regardless of the most enjoyable experience for the player(s), which is the funnest for spectators/backseat gamers?

Edit: besides Smash.

Smash, because it's pretty easy to tell what's going on.
Or if you don't think smash is a fighting game, Guilty Gear always has some cool overthetop fights

Flashy anime fighters probably. Even if someone has no idea what they're watching due to lack of game or genre-specific knowledge at least they'll enjoy the spectacle. I personally love watching SCVI, but I'm also biased being a Soulcalibur fan.

Smash is barely a fighting game. It's main appeal is adhd riddled kids who need can't sit still for 40 seconds watching a REAL MAN'S fighting game. They need their pikachu doing win sprints across the overtly large maps with bright flashing lights dazzling their frontal lobe

Smash is the least easy fighting game to understand what's going on, especially if you don't play Smash.

I like watching Soul Caliber or Tekken if I'm interesting in something more grounded and technical.

I've always been blown away by SNK spritework so any of their fighters are great if you like to admire the lovely pixels.

Lol okay dude. I'm actually part of the "Smash isn't a fighting game" group. But this level of hate for the game is absurd. I wouldn't call it a kid's game, any more than I would call ANY game a "real man's game" (except maybe Dark Souls or DOOM).

UMvC3 is usually super hype, especially when Marlinpie is involved

This was pretty much my first thought, too.
SF2 is pretty easy to watch with basic commentary. MvC# is always fun and has main stream characters. Other than that, anime fighters often have a lot going on with big flashy moves.

The 3 games that tend to have the highest spectator view count are 1) Smash 2)Tekken 3)DBFZ (literally in that order). Smash and DBFZ makes sense considering the IP, but Tekken is probably the most engaging of them is because the lack of projectiles... or to better put it spacing is done primarily from footsies and frame trapping. Because of that, there's always action involved which makes it more engaging. Watching MK11 fights and unanimously anytime someone picks a spam friendly character, view count goes down and everyone in the chat starts complaining how boring it is. Smash and DBFZ also has projectiles, but both of those games give many tools in how to handle it as well. MK11 handling of projectiles is blocking or crouching follow by slowly itching your way to the fighter, or have a character that can teleport.

Smash Bros is a terrible game to watch. It's just people running around until someone decides to commit and get punished for it since you can punish nearly every move in the game with shield into grab. The game is mostly carried by its massive roster of well known IPs and it shows since Rivals of Aether and other Smash clones don't come close to Smash's audience.

I've enjoyed watching power ranger, battlenfor the grid recently. A surprisingly solid fighter that's taken off post pandemic.

As someone who plays Smash (casually), I always found high level Soulcalibur play intensely interesting
