Poll of the Day > Recently played through Metal Gear Solid on PS1 as well as Twin Snakes on GC

Both have their pros and cons.

The pros of the PS1 version are the music and atmosphere. It really felt like a movie made into a great game. The difficulty was also more appropriate. Getting caught by guards usually has lethal consequences.

The cons of the PS1 version are that the bosses really weren't fun. Ocelot and Rex are the only really good ones. Everything else felt cheap, especially Sniper Wolf and Psycho Mantis. The aiming controls are the main culprit there.

The pros of Twin Snakes are obviously the graphics and controls upgrade. The first person shooting mode was much needed. This also improved the Psycho Mantis and Sniper Wolf bosses.

The cons of Twin Snakes are the absolutely stupid cutscenes and the unfitting soundtrack. It ruined the original atmosphere of the game. The graphics for some characters (especially the DARPA chief) were also really bad.

This has been my blog for today. I'm off to play Metal Gear Solid 2 next.

A theory for Metal Gear Solid and Twin Snakes is that Metal Gear Solid is the story exactly as it happened. No ridiculously crazy backflips or jumping off missiles, just the story as it happened.

The Twin Snakes is the story as told by Otacon. Otacon becomes best friends with Snake and always has praise for him, so he fluffs the story up for him.

I forgot where I saw this originally. I think it works out, even if he pisses himself in both versions.

Yes. That was hit or miss. I'm glad they got rid of Mei Ling's ridiculous accent. Liquid Snake generally had better voice acting, too. Naomi's voice actress definitely phoned it in, though.

the voice acting is horrible in Twin Snakes, which is sad because the original is one of the best ever for VAs

its as if they called in everyone to re record the entire script, and everyone just phoned it in. And the half assed voice acting kills the scenes

oh yeah and they somehow ruined one of the best VG soundtracks ever too

Yes, but you could only snipe while laying down. And if you got shot, it completely threw off your set up and you had to reposition yourself. It wasn't good.

I just finished Metal Gear Solid 2.

The story was really good, I don't think I ever properly appreciated it before. The setting just wasn't very interesting, and Raiden is an incredibly annoying character.

I purposely finished it on April 30th. That wasn't a coincidence.

Really? You didn't like the ninja fight or Vulcan Raven?! The tank one is kinda weird, but the actual time you fight him is solid.

Sniper Wolf was ok too though.

The tank one wasn't great at all. The actual time is okay, but it's just "place Claymores and wait".

MGS2's bosses weren't much better. The Harrier was awesome though.

Compared to Rose, Raiden wasn't so bad
