By then, everyone who wanted a vaccine would have had it. All that will be left are the anti-vaxxers, and there's no use protecting them.

its gonna get real fun when we plateau at ~50% vaccination rate, dumb people start congregating in large groups without masks, and we end up with a strain of virus that ignores the immunity imparted by existing vaccines. i'm betting that the epicenter for this new round will be florida, because its always florida...

No it doesnt lol. Majority havent been vaccinated for 6-8 months either so that cant be determined.

Viruses can also mutate and even if that statement was true, after 6-8 months you really think people will get vaccinated again?

Tbh if we keeps masks with that in mind we might as well just consider them a permanent fashion accessory.

The only reason we're not having crushing amount of hospitals and deaths right now like back in January are because of the vaccines. People are taking less precautions than ever in the pandemic, and positivity % has been trending down. Do we really need to continue to mask up once we're below 2%?

It's still not definitively determined that being vaccinated prevents transmission. It's unlikely to occur, but there is nothing stopping the virus from sitting in your nose if you breathe it in.

There seems to be a thought here that we are living in a dystopian permanent pandemic, one in which we need to get vaccinated several times routinely.

ever gotten a flu vaccine? did you know you need to get a new one each year?

we're going to get to the point where mask wearing wont be needed, but we're not going to get there until we hit an initial vaccination rate of around 80%. after that we're not done with covid, it'll become a seasonal virus that we need a new vaccine for every year.

It was kind of funny for me. I must have had a weird doctor growing up because I never got vaccines like that. And every year at least once but sometimes a few times Id get a nasty cold like clockwork. Then, a few years ago I got diagnosed with a chronic condition that led me to start seeing a different doctor who specializes in that area...he started giving me vaccines and I havent had a cold since.

And we will likely not get to needed vaccination numbers for herd immunity because a large chunk of the population refused.

While I agree with the rest of what you said and am still hopeful in the possibility the initial vaccine after the full dose will at least maintain for up to a year, with zero to minimal possible booster shots, I'm sure that we don't need a true or full herd immunity before a herd immunity model is maintained and understood for vaccine holdouts and the such.

People are still getting vaccines everyday, everywhere and it can only get better once the vaccine is approved for teenager's and lower. I'm sure at least early herd immunity samples and models are being studied and by the time that over 60+% percent of the US is fully vaccinated , we'll start to see a good lot on how herd immunity will start working, especially on the heavier populated cities and states with the highest vaccine numbers.

In fact, I don't think it's a stretch to say that once somewhere like New York is hitting 80%-90% margins, we should know a lot, and also have hopefully been approved by then for the vaccinating and vaccinations of those at least in the 12-17 range to see what if any complications are needed, and between the end of fall to the end of 2021 at least know what booster shots will be needed and or when we will need to do so.
