They have this in South Carolina too. At least it was I don't know if they changed it.
Like you can go the market and get cooked chicken that is cold, but you can't buy it hot. And I am pretty sure it the same price.
I understand not wanting people to use EBT for McD or something( I wouldn't care) but if it is in the Supermarket people should be able to pay for it with EBT.

I worked at a Kroger in Atlanta for a few years, there are a lot of odd restrictions with both EBT and WIC. It was like this at the store I worked for, hot, prepared food was not covered by EBT, neither was alcohol (understandably) and energy drinks. No fast food on EBT either.

WIC was very specific on brands of cereal, yogurt, and what kind of milk you could get. If the WIC ticket said 2% milk, it would not cover skim milk for whatever reason.

This was closer to like 2009 so it may have changed since.

I mean, EBT is so limited that I get why they limit purchases of prepared food. Force people to stretch it a bit more.

On the other hand, maybe we should just give more food stamps to the poor.

we were on EBT during the great recession

we were able to buy as much fresh produce as we wanted and even soda and stuff

we need to improve the funding for this safety net but it's not as bad as your pic makes it sound. not sure why they weird rules on fast food, but you can basically go to a grocer and purchase almost anything you want with foodstamps. it's a great thing and should be bolstered to make sure no one is ever without quality produce

If the two are the same price, I'm not sure I really see why one is allowed but the other is not. With that being said, aren't those programs meant to be last-resort things for people who can't even afford their groceries, not a general income substitute to spend on whatever you like? If so, they shouldn't really be covering any kind of takeaway food in the first place... but I'll certianly agree that "is it heated?" is a dumb place to draw the line.

Because EBT cards are in part to make sure kids get fed. If you have dead beat and/or drug addicted parents and now just give them cash then they will spend the money on themselves and the kids will starve. With EBT since you can only spend it on food, and booze can't be purchased, then the chances of kids not getting any food is significantly lower.

I'd have responded more realistically (EBT is one of the programs I'm studying now in the interest of future expansion and change once I graduate) if it had been an argument presented by a guy who doesn't handwaves a fucking genocide.

Its a flawed program, thats for sure. But some lines need to be drawn and because of that stupid rules like this are created. If I take everyone under my roof to McDonalds and not order off the dollar menu, its about $65. You can get more than 1 meal for my family out of $65 at the grocery store. Im sure this is the purpose of most restrictions, but so much grey area makes it far from perfect
