That Tumbling Down song was beautiful. And from what I can tell, it was an original song made just for the movie.

Yeah the tv series ending is much better imo. Happier ending and the surreal artsy nature of it leaves an impact.
A buddy of mine and I split bought the series on VHS in the 90s. The show already felt avant garde to us. Then that awesome weird ending. Felt really personal to me as a guy around 14 or 15 at the time. The movie endings are good and certainly a spectacle but always made me feel a bit sour --- You know how fads are. Today it's brains, tomorrow, pierced tongues. Then the next day, pierced brains. -Jane Lane ... Copied to Clipboard!

EoE isn't sadder, you just now have the context for the TV ending.

They easily couldve merged the first half of the movie (which was great, action packed and tense), and then cut to episode 25/26 once instrumentality commenced, have Shinji and everyone make their realizations about self-love and all that, and then GodShinji decides that, hey, being separate gives us the opportunity to grow or something like that, and reverse instrumentality. Idk. Amazing imagery but idk if Im too smart or too stupid to understand any of it

EoE ends with humanity being given the choice to return to their bodies, at least from my understanding. Basically if being part of a singularity completes you, you can remain that way. If you ever want to be more, you can go back to being an individual. I wasn't sure if anyone else besides Asuka and Shinji chose to come back, or if it'll be a gradual process. I see EoE as hopefully, anyways.
