As an new English teacher, I can't think of many of my colleagues who think it's good at all

One of the teachers that I was ghosting in a session straight up admitted to me after all the students left that there's no focus and the motivation to learn isn't quite the same as if you were in a classroom with your peers, and some of the students I've asked their thoughts for on this felt similarly too

My first grader is still doing remote learning. We had the option of sending him back in a hybrid program, but we chose to keep him full remote. Mostly because the hybrid option is even more inconvenient than the remote option. I definitely think remote learning is inferior to full-time, in-person learning.

Cant speak for the kids, but I, myself, took online classes for college (this was actually before the pandemic) and I loved it. I felt like I had so much freedom, being able to work on what I wanted when I wanted. I think I wouldve been perfectly happy doing remote learning when I was in pre-college school lol.

These are pretty much my thoughts on this subject.

Overall, I think remote learning is a very good idea. It's very efficient and can save many people a lot of time, money, resources, etc. However, I think for younger kids there still needs to be constant adult supervision. I'm not sure what the cut off age would be to allow kids to stay at home alone and do all their learning remotely. If I had to guess what a good age would be I would probably say around 8 or so.

And this is why I'm glad people (generally) who know nothing about pedagogy have no say in education policy.

My younger one has been full time in school since the fall. I am very happy, she needed reading help. She is one of those kids that needs another adult teaching her because at times she isnt as motivated to do something for my husband or myself.

My older had been hybrid into March when they returned full time. Emotionally she is doing much better getting out of the house for school. Her grades were always fine so its not as if she wasnt learning. Although I have my doubts that the kids are getting challenged this year because she is getting straight A+s. (She is smart, but I wouldve thought shed have to work harder for those kinds of grades).

Not one teacher in the school likes it
In some cases it might be easier for more lecture style lessons but they all miss the human interaction with the kiddos and find the kiddos do not engage at all compared to in person

Truly stupid post.

But it has
it's pretty much crippled the development of children under a certain age
experts have already said losing a year can equate to having a much lower development

I have a child with Autism. It was horrible for him.

I have 3 school aged kids and it was a nightmare and stressed my marriage and my Wife's job too. Thankfully, we only had to put up with it for a few months.

There are massive issues of equity and educational quality, but "made kids dumber" is a truly stupid way to try to frame that.

Sorry, I meant 10. I guess 8 is probably still too young for most kids to be staying home alone. It's probably also too you to be expecting them to be responsible in keeping safe, preparing an easy meal, and completing a certain amount of predetermined curricular school work per day. But, IMO 10 seems like a more reasonable age where kids would be able to be responsible in all those areas.

Ok let me use a different sentence than that poster

Due to the pandemic causing online learning, it has dramatically decreased the development and learning of children under a certain age causing their maturity and general skills to lack compared to previous generations. In other words, they are 'dumber'.

Better?
