Every single one of them deserves to be fired. If they really want to be a cop, they should reapply and submit to retraining and reevaluation using standards approved by an independent oversight committee.

I have met a handful of them who are ok helpful people and a dramatically larger amount who are assholes, openly racist, or like to hassle people for absolutely no reason

i will never forget working at a grocery store in college and having a cop buying shit on my line take a glance at the black kid bagging the groceries and whispering keep an eye on that (n-word) to me and grinning like it was some kind of secret he was letting me in on

fuck them all. zero respect. a police officer has literally never helped me even when I needed them to, but Ive been harassed and mistreated by them more times than I can count.

It's one of those things where everyone only focuses on the negative and never thinks about all the good they actually do, because the media never covers any of the good stuff. They only cover the bad stuff.

I bet you all can name a dozen times when a cop did something wrong, but how many of you can name a time when they went above and beyond to help someone? The media won't show you anything like that of course.

Some are cool. Some are not.

Pretty much. I've never had much trouble with the police in my area. Others have. Hard to have an opinion on the majority of them when you have no experience with the majority of them.

I've had numerous bad experiences with retail workers, and have seen dozens of videos of shitty retail workers. Fuck all retail workers, they're all horrible.

I limit all communication with police to a minimum. My skin complexion is white so I don't fear as heavily, but I don't play chicken with people that can ruin my life because I decide to be a smartass. I respect the badge in that a loose screw can kill me.

Most are fine people either just looking to doa job to feed their family or wanting to serve. A few that abuse power and do corrupt crap that make the rest look bad.

As an insider whose experience with U.S cops is in real life this is the case a lot of the time.

There are good cops, but they are grossly outnumbered by the shitheads who would be better off doing anything else as a job than a police officer.

• Amber Guyger is nuts. No one should barge into someone else's (Botham Jean) apartment and shoot them. Even if she thought it was her own apartment and someone else is in there, nothing was forcing her to go in by herself if she was so afraid that she would shoot the first person she sees upon entering.
• Michael Slager is nuts. No one should shoot a man running away in the back multiple times and then plant evidence on the dead body.
• Sean Williams is nuts. No one should just shoot a man (John Crawford III) carrying a BB gun they were going to buy from Walmart in the back with no questions asked.
• Jonathan Aledda is nuts. No one should shoot a man (Charles Kinsey) in the leg who is lying on the ground with their hands in the air while trying to explain to the police than an autistic man in his care is playing with a toy truck and not a gun.
• Derek Chauvin is nuts. No one should kneel on someone's (George Floyd) neck and back for over 9 minutes and ignore their pleas while they slowly die from a lack of oxygen.
• Daniel Pantaleo is nuts. No one should choke another man (Eric Garner) to death simply because they resisted arrest for selling loose cigarettes.
• Sean Groubert is nuts. No one should order a man (Levar Jones) to get his ID and then shoot him while he reaches for ID and continue to shoot at him after he puts his hands up.
• The officers who arrested Rodney Reese just because he was walking home in the snow late at night are nuts.
• The police officers who were involved in the terrorist attack on the capitol on January 6th are nuts.

Don't forget those 4 cops that shot Diallo 19 times cuz he reached for his wallet to show his ID.
Those 4 cops got acquitted for taking a persons life.
(Somehow all four cops eyesight was so poor only on that day that all of them standing at different angles from someone visually all of sudden sees wallets look like guns??? cmon smh)

Its hard to say. Ive only lived in two cities, so I cant comment on the whole country.

In Louisiana, they were absolutely unprofessional, extremely antagonistic, extremely violent, and they were extremely militarized to the point of them treating you like an insurgent. They were laser focused on marijuana and watched serious crime go unsolved on a daily basis to get marijuana. Why? Federal incentives. People were literally scared to call the BRPD because they would instantly start searching your shit to find something to charge you for. They look like gang members and bikers and stuff. Very intimidating and they openly say theyre not there to help you. They constantly patrol and pull people over for absolutely no reason just to search for pot. Theyre also overweight. 0/10

Not saying my current city, but Im in Colorado. These guys hold themselves to WAY higher standards. They dont want to charge you for some BS infraction because they want the crime rates to not be inflated with simple possession or loitering. They will help you if you call. They will not harass you on the street unless youre drunk. They dont patrol around to randomly pull people over and make them late. Theyre in way better shape than they were down south and they will actually mediate a situation where two people are out of line without arresting or charging anyone. This is what cops are supposed to be like.

The Baton Rouge Police are part of the reason that people call cops pigs. I have heard that cops are literally all like this across the Bible Belt. I have seen enough shows about Texas cops to know theyre way too strict.

Most i have met are good people who do a great job. I've never lived in a city larger than 40,000 though.

control freaks, on and off duty.

not necessarily bad people, but the traits that make them effective police inevitably find their way into personal life even. dated one a few years back, and my best friend's mom was one as well; similar behavioral patterns in interpersonal relationships.

i'd imagine that how they manage these tendencies on and off duty varies from person to person though, as does their competency on the job, both as a byproduct of individual disposition and of departmental culture.

for lack of better words. i'm sleepy.

Ive never had an unpleasant experience but its more important to point out that plenty of people can not say the same and that needs to be fixed. Consider myself lucky every day and its sad.
