When I get an interview (not just a screening call), about 75%. Maybe 50% of the screening calls turn into interviews, normally I'm asking too much or I'm not interested in it. And maybe 50% of the jobs I apply to I get a screening call.

That comes to 18.75% which is probably in the ball park % of jobs I apply to and get an offer.

Ignoring the comedy of errors in getting my very first real job, I get offers on maybe 60% of interviews. The misses are mostly management positions I'm only barely qualified for.

Whenever this topic comes up I always see a bunch of people tout like 50%+ and I just think... am I really that bad at interviewing? Are those people lying? Have they only done dishwashing jobs?

My success rate is probably less than 10%, depending on your definition. I'd say it's whether or not you eventually get a job. Interviewing isn't my strongest skill but still, it's not uncommon for me to do fairly well and have it be clear to me or them that it just isn't a good fit. Even if I was really good I think I'd at best maybe get up to 33% in my industry

Some guy here said he only counts final round interviews, my rate would certainly jump up if I did that. It's common for me to have a few rounds of phone interviews first and I don't think it's unusual to get eliminated on one of those, but to me it counts

unless you're an exec the final round interview is perfunctory. if you don't get a job at that point you messed up. if we're counting that, 100 percent for me. if not, 30ish percent and if phone screens, five percentage.

how many jobs have you worked, how is it 85%? are you applying for jobs just for the sake of applying and not accepting them...

or have you worked 17 jobs and applied to 20...

Idk how to give an accurate percentage. I've been on a lot of interviews where both sides just realized this is not going to be a thing. Lots of places don't get into the nuts and bolts of a job initially and im not going to take a job that I don't actually want to do or I don't like the atmosphere

Jobs that I actually felt like I'd be a good fit for? Like 50% maybe

I usually do contract work.. so I blow thru clients / interviews pretty quickly yup! But sometimes FAANG companies are interested in me too so I give it a try.

I was given the benefit of the entire hour to see if I could figure out the "brain teaser" they presented. It was definitely awkward .. in a real world situation if something like this came up I would look for similar questions on Google and apply whatever I found to my solution.

Or like I say the publication "Cracking the Coding Interview" has similar problems. A lot of them are irrelevant in real-world scenarios... so that's why I haven't crushed all the problems in that publication yet.

Eh I don't think contract work should count. The long term commitment doesn't exist

I get it, I just think that isn't really what the OP is asking. I would also like it narrowed down to career type jobs as well, retail etc shouldn't count

Oh gosh... yeah a lot of these real world interviews like if you want to be a plumber or something must be absolute shit.

Like it's generally "who you know" rather than "what you know" so it's likely that most people get some crazy lowball numbers. Just keep throwing it at the wall and some of it will stick.

When I entered into a new career my success rate even for initial interviews was damn near zero. Had more luck once I edited and improved my resume, removing my address, and applying for entry lv positions and or ones who's qualifications were a year or less with preferred.

And I'm applying for work everywhere in the country. But the number of employers who wouldnt hire me unless I already had plans to move there was bafflingly. Even though I stated clearly that I was able and willing to travel at a moments notice at my own expanse.

Seriously, I'm applying every damn where, of course I dont have any pre plans of moving to (X) location. Why would I before securing a job there?

Unfortunately, this is what I faced. You may need to save up and move to a hot area like I did. Now there should be a lot more remote opportunities if that is an option in your field.

First job: no interview. My dad picked me up from school and said I was now his office assistant and it was my first day.

Interviewed for two jobs after high school and didnt get them.

Dad went to work for another company and I stayed at the old job. Got a new office manager who laid off half the old staff including me.

Interviewed for three more jobs, got one. Worked there 9 months then interviewed at a new job and got hired that day. Still there 9 years later.

Interviewed for a life insurance sales job a couple years ago and got the offer but it was 100% commission based so I turned it down.

Interviewed for another job back in October. Thought I had it in the bag. Two phone interviews and two Zoom interviews all went well. They picked someone else :(

So Ive interviewed for...8 jobs. Got three of them, but turned one down.

I suck lol

My current career is abundant and everywhere actually so location/economy isnt all that big a deal to me. Although my perseverance paid off and I managed to snag a very high paying, entry lv job, but its seasonal.

So my plan is to save up as much money as possible until we're laid off, go on unemployment, go to my desired city and seek employment from there.
