I'd guess that, and probably he got a bad diagnosis from the doctor and decided to shoot the messenger :(

It would be unusual for 32 year old athlete who played cornerback to have CTE. Of course, higher grade concussions can lead to depressive/violent behavior in the short run.

Ill have to find a link, but theres a study out there saying that pretty much every football player from middle school to the NFL, has some degree of CTE. something like 150 people tested, 148 showed symptoms.

The biggest issue with CTE is that it's really hard to diagnose living people. So it's hard to get a measurement of just how much football translates to how much CTE since you typically can only study those who have died, which is a skewed population.

A 25 year old LB for the Chiefs had signs of CTE after he killed his baby momma and then himself outside of the Chiefs practice facility in front of the coach, GM, and others.

iirc, the guy from OP had multiple concussions in a week so CTE is definitely going to be a factor here.

I forgot about that. The NFL did a great job downplaying that horrific incident.

It could be CTE, then. I'm sure we'll find out soon enough.

Interesting takeaway from the reporting- when it's a pistol, they refer to it as a [caliber] weapon. I wonder what the reasoning behind that is.

iirc, that study used donated cadavers of people who's loved ones suspected that they were suffering from CTE while they were alive. So nearly 100% of football players who had some symptoms of CTE were shown to have signs of it in their brains.

Surely CTE is indeed widespread throughout football players, but that study wasn't a random sampling of players.

Guns save more innocent lives than they take in America, by a very, very large margin, so it's quite the opposite.

Really? I'd like to read a source for that.

I read:

https://everytownresearch.org/report/gun-violence-in-america/

That says:

Every day, more than 100 Americans are killed with guns and more than 230 are shot and wounded. The effects of gun violence in America extend far beyond these casualtiesgun violence shapes the lives of millions of Americans who witness it, know someone who was shot, or live in fear of the next shooting.

The Centers for Disease Control. It's been out for 8 years.... Defensive gun uses is estimated at 500k to 3m per year. That is much, much more than the ~10k a year average that are murdered by guns.

The NFL has way too much money behind it to be held accountable by corrupt politicians lol besides, our government considers the NFL important to recruiting soldiers.

He got 2 concussions in 3 games his 2nd year. He played 4 more years. This was before the concussion protocol stuff they have now.

Not to excuse his behavior either, but his father in an interview said he believed his head injuries from football screwed his mind (my words not his of course).

your argument is a fallacy because you cannot assume those lives were necessarily "saved" by the guns. there's no guarantee those cases would have all resulted in death had there not been a "defensive" use of a firearm. there's also the possibility that "defense" could have been achieved using something other than a firearm so there's no guarantee the presence of the firearm helped at all. you're also basically saying "see, the reason we need guns is because we have guns".

LOL. You can't prove it the other way either. I'd rather use my gun in self-defense instead of wondering if I didn't use it would I still be alive right now. At that point it's mute. You are also forgetting that there are studies that show using a gun in self-defense is the most effective way to prevent death or grave bodily harm. It's why cops carry guns, and why we have the second amendment. Like how in the hell are you going to effectively defend yourself when an attacker has a knife bro? Or a gun? I'd take a gun everytime, and so would any other sane person. If you don't want to have a gun to use in those situations thats your call, but we got a BIG problem when you start talking about taking law abding citizens guns away and thus their most effective mean of self defense.

I haven't missed that they have lower rates of violent crime pretty much across the board than we do.

Or how their mass tragedies lead to much lower loss of life than those of the US.

Crime stats are so hard to compare UK to US.
You can't compare Harlan Kentucky with Milton Keynes, it's just not comparable.

But, not long back, Trump was having pot shots at London because of murders, so this graph appeared in some papers, gives a very rough and general idea.

Cool story. Show me how that is because of guns now. And do that and then explain to me why Mexico has a much higher rate than the US while guns are banned there.

Graph includes all murders which occur in London? Not just Londoners murdered? If so I am impressed because London gets way more tourism than most of those cities.

Edit being from Chicago I expect some dodge like processing crimes outside of London so that they get counted elsewhere.

Any way I look at it, it looks bad for US. My cynical mentality tells me that London just has a better trauma system = fewer homicides but this hardly makes my country look good. (At least Trump did not get reelected)
